Happy (almost) retirement to an incredible member of our Chown Commercial and Estimating team, Ken Smith!
Ken has been part of the Chown family since 2006 and has earned a reputation as the guy who can “always make things happen!” After 20+ years of dedication, expertise, and friendship, we’re incredibly grateful for everything Ken has brought to our team and our customers. We wish him nothing but the best in his next adventure!
Ken will officially be with Chown through November 20, so be sure to stop by and get your goodbyes in before then!
While we’re certainly sad to see Ken go, we’re excited to welcome two new Estimators to the team: Sam Trujillo and Tania Rueffer! They’ve already proven to be valuable additions, and we can’t wait to see how they grow in their new roles.

Chown was honored to be featured on an episode of Oregon Business Matters by Oregon Business & Industry with our very own Ahna Ward, CEO of Chown, and Dave Chown, former business owner and 4th generation of Chown leadership, leading the conversation.
The discussion takes you through Chown’s beginnings and evolution since 1879, a time before electricity, power tools, cars, and even the commercial lightbulb. Over the years, our business has evolved with the times, from selling tools and general equipment to sporting goods, paint, and some of Portland’s first electrical appliances, including washing machines and radios. Each chapter has required us to adapt and find new ways to serve our community while building on Chown’s legacy and longevity.
Today, our focus is residential decorative hardware and plumbing, along with commercial doors and hardware. And our evolution continues. In the past decade, we’ve expanded into Seattle and added residential door installation services, while also navigating the challenges of operating a business in the ever-changing Portland, a city we love deeply and have called home for generations.
Through it all, what has remained constant is our commitment to our team and to treating each other like family, always looking out for one another.
