Finally landed two more of this year’s The Booker Prizes International shortlisters: Vincent Delecroix’s Small Boat and —one of my favorite books I’ve read this year— She Who Remains by Rene Karabash. A deeply moving and inventively told story of life in rural Albania and a yearning, sapphic romance caught up in codes of filial piety and patriarchal conservatism. Beautifully told!

The joke goes that booksellers can’t count. While that might be gross slander, if there is a *hint* of truth to it, it works in your favor: Portland Book Week is a 10-day week! So while normally weeks might have already ended, we’re heading into our SECOND WEEKEND of bookstore BINGO. Our stamp is well warmed-up and we’re ready and waiting!

⚽️ OLÉ, OLÉ, OLÉ, OLÉ!!!! 🥅 Sure, our turn hosting the World Cup is already an embarrassment (*ahem* 🧊, war, banned countries, absurd prices), but we still love the game. It’s a global passion that shows up even in literature! From 🇺🇾 Eduardo Galeano’s iconic sports-writing to a 🇫🇷 graphic novel about a girls high school team to a bold new novel from 🇭🇹 Dmitry Elias Leger, there are so many ways to read your way around the World Cup!
