Waynflete School

Waynflete came together this morning for our 2026 Convocation, marking the start of another school year as one community. Centered around this year’s theme, “Roots and Rising,” the morning featured reflections from students representing each division, faculty and staff voices, and music from the Jazz Combo, Upper School Chorus, and WIC. With Lower, Middle, and Upper School students gathered together on Waynhenge, Convocation offered a chance to celebrate the connections that ground us while looking ahead to the growth and possibilities of the year to come.

And, as tradition calls for, we closed the morning with the ringing of the gong! 🔔🌱

On Founders Day, we celebrate Waynflete’s beginnings and the generations of students, educators, and families who have shaped our community. 💚

Founded in 1898 by educators Agnes Lowell and Caroline Crisfield, Waynflete began with just 49 students. In 1912, the school moved to the Horace Dudley estate near Portland’s Western Promenade, where a former stable and carriage house became classrooms in what we now know as Founders Hall.

More than a century later, the values that have long shaped a Waynflete education—curiosity, creativity, relationships, intellectual engagement, and community—remain at the heart of who we are. Today, we celebrate where we began, all those who have been part of the journey, and the generations still to come.

Connection and plenty of teamwork marked the start of the school year during Outdoor Experience (OE) and LEAP Week! 🌲🥾

Whether taking on challenging expeditions or exploring closer to home, Middle and Upper School students spent the first week of school learning alongside their classmates in a unique setting—working together and embracing new experiences. From vigorous adventures to local excursions, each activity offered a chance to strengthen community and prepare for what’s ahead. Here's to an extraordinary 2026–27 school year!

Today was Activity Shopping for our Upper School students! From self-advocacy groups to games, creative pursuits, and skill-building, students had the chance to learn more about the many activities available to them and find new ways to connect with their community and express their unique interests.

We're back! First-day energy filled campus as we welcomed Middle and Upper School students for Welcome and Orientation Day. Here’s to a new year of learning, connection, and all that’s ahead. Welcome back, Flyers!

We were thrilled to welcome Waynflete alumni back to Fore River Campus for the Waynflete Alumni Soccer Games! It was a wonderful afternoon filled with friendly competition, reconnection, conversation, and plenty of laughter. Alumni from the Classes of 1987 through 2026 joined us for the games, while the Boys and Girls Varsity teams played their hearts out. The afternoon continued with a casual gathering at Bissell Brothers on Thompson’s Point, just across the river.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the day such a joyful celebration of the Waynflete community. It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces, reconnect with old friends, and celebrate together. We’re already looking forward to next year’s matches!
