For immediate release:
Recently Jon Deshler started the Freedom To Be Quartet in honor of the memory of his friend Stu Rasmussen. This quartet includes Deshler on trumpet, Neal Grandstaff on guitar, Riley Turner on piano, & Xylyn Hathaway on bass. Both Riley and Xylyn are excellent professional musicians, Portlanders, and happen to be trans/non-binary. Their inaugural performance, with dear friend and well known Portland vocalist - Marilyn T. Keller is on September 16, 2026 at the new Darcelle XV Plaza for a free lunchtime concert at noon.
Darcelle XV Plaza is at 800 SW Harvey Milk St, Portland, Oregon 97205.
In the tradition of Deshler's TUNE TOURS there will be a video production of this first ever event in the new plaza to showcase and document what Portland can be, and what open minded cooperation can look like in this radically inclusive, multi-generational, multi-racial, LGBTQIA+ & ally group of exceptional Oregon and Portland based professional musicians.
You are invited to attend on the 16th, and as well you are invited to help spread the word. We intend to shed nothing but positive light on the memory of Stu Rasmussen, Darcelle XV, Robert Wright, Portland, jazz, musicianship, and of course the beautiful Darcelle XV Plaza.
Thank you for your attention.
Sincerely,
The Freedom To Be Quartet & Friends
