True Story...
In September, this body carried approx. 40 lbs. for 57 miles. It climbed the highest peak in the lower 48 without aching. It balanced on rocks across creeks and high up on the mountain with ease.🗻💪
Then after a $10 shower in the Mt. Whitney Portal Hostel to remove the first layer of dirt I had accumulated, I lifted one foot to put on my pants and the other foot went out from underneath me. I landed with all of my weight on my left arm on a wet bathroom floor knocking over the trash can for extra drama.
Heather Cent says it was "quite the fall."
It is truly ironic and humorous (although very painful) that after all those miles where I don't even remember tripping once, that I could get so injured in a bathroom.
I am healing thanks to yoga, acupuncture, massage, chiro and more. Lots of baths with Epsom salts. Thankfully this body is strong.
Although it was just an accident, I have contemplated quite a bit the irony of it.
Injury tends to happen at the end of a hike. It's when I'm not picking my feet up with quite as much intention either due to fatigue or a lack of attention. In this case combination of a wet floor and my flip-flops wasn't the best combo

🍁 As fall settles in, I love the invitation both subtle and abrupt to soak it all in.
Injury is humbling but in some ways inevitable if you are as active as I am.
I'm grateful it happened in the bathroom and now on the mountain! THAT would have been a bust. 😊

Headed back to Portland after an epic 5 days of backpacking and summiting Mt. Whitney. 🗻🥾🩷
This pic is when we were descending post-summit. Took a break so Heather could attend to foot blisters. 😳
Thunder and lightening was predicted so we needed to get to a lower elevation near trees as soon as we could. ⚡️
