In 2025, I was proud to champion House Bill 3377, which allocates $10 million in state lottery bonds toward construction — support that, paired with the City of Portland, Prosper Portland, and generous private donors, helped turn this vision into reality.

A big win for downtown Portland and House District 33 — good jobs, local investment, and a vibrant new gathering place right here in our community. Construction is officially underway! 🍽️🌆

It was an honor to celebrate the ribbon cutting of the Margaret Carter Commons, named in recognition of former Oregon Senator Margaret Carter, whose decades of leadership and advocacy helped pave the way for stronger, more equitable communities.

I was proud to join former Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt, Metro Council President Juan Carlos Gonzalez, and so many community partners for this meaningful milestone.

Affordable housing is more than a roof over someone's head—it's the foundation for health, stability, independence, and opportunity. Congratulations to the Urban League of Portland, Northwest Housing Alternatives, and every partner who helped bring this beautiful 55+ affordable housing community to life on N. Interstate. This is what investing in people and community looks like.

The recent fire in a vacant building in Northwest Portland along Naito Parkway is another reminder that empty buildings don't just represent lost opportunity- they can become public safety concerns for our neighborhoods, first responders, and surrounding businesses.

Every building in our community should have a purpose. Whether it's housing, small businesses, community services, or mixed-use development, occupied buildings create safer, more vibrant streets and stronger local economies. We must continue investing in revitalization efforts that bring people back downtown while ensuring properties are maintained, meet fire and life safety standards, and are held accountable when they sit vacant.

Our first responders put themselves in harm's way to protect our communities, and they deserve buildings that are responsibly managed and safe to access in an emergency.

Downtown Portland is worth investing in. Together, we can build a city that is active, resilient, and safe for everyone.

Thank you to Metro Council President jcgonzalezor and the Oregon Metro Future 50 Vision Commission for inviting me to be a part of the conversation in creating a Safe, Welcoming, Diverse, and Prosperous Oregon for generations to come.

It was a meaningful evening connecting with community members and leaders as we work towards creating the vision for the next 50 years of growth and prosperity for our communities that call Oregon their Home.

The Art in the Governor’s Office Program which has been on pause since the pandemic in 2020, honors selected artists in Oregon with exhibitions in the Governor’s Gallery in the state Capitol. Nominated by a statewide committee of arts professionals, artists representing the breadth and diversity of artistic practice across Oregon are selected by the Oregon Arts Commission with the participation of the Governor’s Office.
