Excited to be joining the Portland Cherry Bombs FC this season and singing the national anthem for tonight's game!

Tonight is opening night of Agatha Christie's "The Mousetrap" with Mask and Mirror Community Theatre. It's my first time doing a straight play and using a Cockney accent! I'm overjoyed to be playing Detective Sergeant Trotter in this fabulous piece. We run through March 15!

When I was a little kid, I'd get taken on field trips to watch musicals at the Keller Auditorium. I dreamed of having a big role in a show there some day. I've gone from from eating cold cuts in an open-air baggage claim surrounded by pigeons while learning what the hell JavaScript was -- because I didn't get a callback for whatever audition I initially made whatever that audition trip was for -- to being part of a team that codes up trimet.org and playing Schaunard in La Bohème well (if not at least decently) with my hometown's opera company in the Keller.

I have my friends, mentors, family, and loved ones to thank for cheering me on and keeping me inspired to keep pushing and fighting to continually grow even when things felt hopeless.

I placed 56th in the AceXR daily drill yesterday out of a user base of 10s of thousands. However, of those using only iron-sights in the program (no fancy red-dots or scopes) -- I placed 3rd.

I use AceXR to practice pistol marksmanship. What draws me into the sport is the chemistry, engineering, and physics behind it. The way your breath, grip, focus, and timing all have to align perfectly to land a single shot is incredibly compelling and it reminds me a lot of singing. In both singing and shooting, you make tiny muscular adjustments, discipline your attention, managr your energy, control your breathing, and have the challenge of staying present while performing a precise task. Both crafts ask you to coordinate your mind and body with intention and attention to detail.

AceXR lets you do all of that safely with a Quest 3 headset and a weighted solid-plastic training mold with a realistic trigger. No danger, no ammo, significantly cheaper — and the skill transfer is surprisingly good.

My hope is to use these skills -only- on paper and steel, and compete for money someday. If you have a Quest 3, I genuinely recommend giving AceXR a try. It’s fascinating to see what your body can learn when the pressure is low and the environment is controlled.

I've always loved taking things apart and putting them together. It really makes you appreciate the engineering at work to make use of the physics needed to sing or (in this case) make a sound. SCIENCE!! Some air drying, valve oil, slide grease, and some remedial practicing and this sucker will be good to go for tonight's rehearsal!
