Be invisible.
That may be the future of digital banking.
At the NASCUS summit, industry leaders discussed how members increasingly judge credit unions against every seamless digital experience they encounter — from food delivery to ride-sharing.
The opportunity isn't to out-tech the biggest banks. It's to remove friction, keep digital and branch experiences in sync, and make it easy for members to reach a real person when they need one.

What if your members stopped waiting for offers — and started asking for what they need?
Traditional cross-selling tries to predict the next financial need. But today’s account holders are increasingly searching, comparing and asking questions in real time.
This new blog explores the shift from cross-selling to cross-buying — and how conversational AI can help financial institutions recognize intent, deliver relevant answers and turn questions into action.
The key idea: the institution that wins isn’t always the one that predicts the need first. It’s the one that’s easiest to ask.

Digital account opening is no longer just about putting an application online.
Credit unions are facing rising expectations for speed and convenience while still needing to manage fraud, compliance and the human side of member relationships.
In our latest story, three credit union CEOs — Aaron Goff of Forrit Credit Union, John Demmler of 7 17 Credit Union and Matt Selke of Georgia Heritage Federal Credit Union — share where they see the biggest friction, what should be automated and where employees still matter.
From real-time decisioning to core-system integration, the conversation is increasingly about what happens behind the digital application.

Credit unions are growing — but membership is telling a different story.
The NCUA’s Q2 2026 data show median asset growth accelerated to 2.9%, while shares and deposits grew 2.5% and loans posted 0.6% growth.
Yet median membership fell 0.6%, with about 56% of federally insured credit unions reporting fewer members than a year earlier.
The regional numbers are just as revealing: Vermont led in both asset and membership growth, while Washington, D.C., posted declines in assets, deposits and loans.
The takeaway? Growth on the balance sheet doesn’t necessarily mean growth in the member base.

The application went digital. The workflow didn’t.
For years, “digital account opening” meant putting a paper form online. But applicants now expect decisions in minutes, fewer steps and a process that follows them across devices and channels.
A modern approach connects verification, real-time decisioning, risk management, funding and digital banking in one flow — helping credit unions and community banks reduce friction while keeping control.
The question isn’t whether people can open an account online. It’s whether your digital account opening experience is ready for what comes next.

🤖 Is AI becoming the new front door to financial services?
A new five-part white paper from Tyfone CEO Siva Narendra argues that data aggregation, conversational AI and digital payments are weakening traditional advantages that credit unions and community banks have long relied on.
The biggest question may be who owns the member relationship when consumers increasingly turn to outside platforms to manage money and get financial advice.
Narendra’s answer isn’t to chase every new technology. It’s to focus on where community institutions still have an edge — trust, lending, local relationships and credit expertise — while using technology to strengthen those advantages.

Congress is running out of time. Credit unions aren’t waiting.
With the 119th Congress entering its final stretch, Kathleen Coulombe, chief advocacy officer at America’s Credit Unions, looks at the credit union industry’s legislative priorities — and the push to build on recent policy wins.
Her op-ed highlights efforts around credit union investment authority, longer loan maturities, modernization of the Federal Credit Union Act, and outdated CTR and SAR reporting thresholds.

Your digital account opening process could be costing you members before they ever become members.
A new blog looks at the hidden cost of manual account opening — from staff time and abandoned applications to missed deposits and unnecessary friction.
Even the biggest banks haven’t fully solved the digital account-opening experience. For credit unions and community banks, that creates an opportunity to compete by making the process faster, easier and more secure.
The key question: Is your digital front door actually open 24/7?
Read the full blog on why modern account opening is becoming a growth strategy, not just a technology project.
