This year, we marked the occasion by extending the program by two days and inaugurating our very first competition, an exciting milestone for all of us. And on a personal note, I marked the occasion with my first installment of what will be a complete cycle of the fourteen piano sonatas of Nikolai Medtner, a composer Iโve grown to deeply admire. Two other faculty played solo recitals, we held a faculty potpourri recital, masterclasses every day, and more!
Iโm so grateful to my wonderful faculty colleagues and to every student who joined us this year. Your artistry, curiosity, and dedication made this anniversary one to remember!

Bowen being Bowen, even at 19 years old he somehow manages to pack this music with so much sparkle and character. Thatโs what I love about this piece โ it feels youthful, yes, but already so fully formed in personality! Hope you enjoy! ๐น

This weekend I had the pleasure of sitting down with Nancy Roldรกn for an interview for the upcoming Sonus International Music Festival.
We talked about my experiences studying with the incomparable Earl Wild, I played some of his music, and we also explored my thoughts on teaching and working with students.
The theme of this yearโs festival is โThe Unseen Spark,โ celebrating the powerful and often invisible ways teachers inspire their students โ something that resonates deeply with my own musical journey.

One more short rehearsal clip: sometimes one movement is all it takes.
The Nocturne from York Bowenโs Miniature Suite was the reason I fell in love with this work. He wrote it at just 19 years old, and yet it holds extraordinary emotional depth โ tender, searching, and beautifully intimate. This is the last third of that movement.
This clip also catches the playful start of the third movement, which feels like Bowen winking at us after all that introspection.
Such a joy to explore this music. ๐ถ
