Not native to the State of Maine, Rosa rugosa is now a common sight along the coast. Originally native to Eastern Asia, it spreads aggressively through its root network and seed-filled hips, pushing out native dune vegetation. To leave on a positive note, the rose hips, the fruit pods left behind after roses bloom, are exceptionally high in vitamin C and antioxidants.
