🐉THAR BE DRAGONS!!🐉

Not just one, but TWO, frickin’ fantastic dragon smoking stands made by the Scroll Art Mfg. Co. out of Bridgeport, Connecticut circa 1926.

These beasts look like they just crawled out of a Tolkien fantasy, but… this pair predates
“The Hobbit” by ten years!

The dastardly pair came by way of a recent buy where we had the opportunity to purchase several artifacts from the old Sacajawea Hotel that WAS located in La Grande, Oregon. Amenities included 95 rooms, a ballroom, restaurant, coffee shop, and the Sand & Sage lounge. The Sacajawea began construction in 1926, opened in 1928, and was demolished (by dragons?🤔) in 1970.

We imagine the dragon smoking stands would have lived in the lobby and/or lounge 🐉

It’s pretty unusual for us to come across 140 year old entry set as complete, and as special, as this!

The c.1886 Victorian entry set is the “Ekado” design by Sargent & Co.

Interestingly, the interior doork**b is standard size to meet visual proportions of a house interior, while the outside k**b is larger to better match the feel of proportions of the house exterior.

Also, where many antique doork**bs are only decorated on the front/visual side, this set is decorated both front AND back!

And, we know it’s “special” because the back of the entry plate says so…😬

Absolutely amazed by this recent find!

We have not one, BUT TWO, never used decorative Victorian porch arches! The tapered fan details are beautiful!
We can only guess that these were a couple of extra leftovers from a c.1880’s house kit that stashed in an attic or basement for the last 140 years!

Both arches are made of cedar. They are double sided so they look beautiful whether you are sitting on the porch or admiring from the street.

We found a little piece of old Portland history!

This cool little gimbaled ship’s compass was originally sold by the C.F. Beebe Co.
They were founded right here in Portland Oregon 140 years ago in 1884. The company originally supplied equipment for the shipping, sailing, and boating industry along the Columbia and Willamette rivers.

Compass in original wood box 5”x5”x 3 5/8”

Descendants of the original founders are still doing business in Portland today.

It is hard to deny the aesthetic appeal of a pile of old clock gears.
They have so many artistic possibilities and stories to tell.

Encountered on a buy…
In a dark dusty stairwell…
Ladders were climbed…
Impulsive choices were made…
Functional antique taxidermy?…

“Old Portland” find the f the day!

I saw one of these killer two gallon Aero Eastern Motor Oil cans at a buy a couple of years ago, but the owner wasn’t ready to let go of it.

I have had my eyes out for one ever since! I love the colors, I love the graphics, and as I discovered today, they were from right here in little ol’ Portland, Oregon!! 😃

The last couple of pics are of the current address shown on the can for Aero Eastern Motor Oil.

Now usually, vintage and antique petroliana stuff is NOT in our usual lineup of finds, but… what can I say, I love this can!🤷

This is, hands down, THE coolest piece of antique terra cotta we have ever come through the store!

It appears to be a rather chess like stately royal figure flanked by a pair of large birds (eagles? ravens? …rooks?😬)

Where’s it from? What building was it on? …we have no idea!🤷
And the people we bought it from? …they had no idea either. 😞 They got it from the estate of a collector with no info🤔

We do know that it’s BIG! 30”H x 23”W x 16”D.
We’re guessing it weighs somewhere north of 125 pounds

It’s definitely a statement piece!

Picked up pretty cool pair of old strap iron gates a couple of days ago! Solid and heavy!

They'd make a great garden entrance⛩️, plant trellis🌸, permanent Halloween display🎃, or addition to your home dungeon💀⛓️...or all of the above. So many creative possibilities😃
