Coffee By Design

We’re excited to welcome author Ifrah F. Ahmed to Coffee By Design on October 2 from 6–8 PM as part of Midnimo: Unity, a celebration of Somali food, music, culture, and community taking place October 2 and 3 in Portland and Lewiston.

Other events include a Community Meet and Greet Potluck at Portland Community Squash on October 2 from 1–3 PM.

On October 3, the celebration continues with a Community Meet and Greet Potluck from 12:30–2:30 PM at Maine MILL in Lewiston, followed by Ilkacase Qeys and Dalmar Yare in concert at Agora. Doors open at 6 PM and the show runs from 7–10 PM.

All events are free. Tickets are required through Eventbrite for the concert.

We’ve been part of Portland’s coffee routine since 1994, so we’ve picked up on a few things. The weather never decides the drink, “grabbing coffee” is a full activity, and everyone has an order they take very seriously.

After years of enjoying Coffee By Design, owner Amanda knew exactly where to turn when she left her career in corporate insurance to open her own coffee trailer.

Now, Pine & Fizz proudly serves our smooth and delicious Casco Bay Blend, using it to create drinks like their favorite Shaken Espresso, at their mobile coffee and soda trailer outside the Masonic Lodge in Cornish, Maine.

There are no perfect words for a day like today.

Twenty-five years later, we’re thinking of the people whose lives were lost, the families who still feel that absence, the survivors, the first responders, and everyone whose life was forever changed on September 11.

This day reminds us how much we rely on one another. In moments of unimaginable fear and loss, people showed up for strangers, cared for their neighbors, and helped however they could.

Moving forward doesn’t mean moving on. It means carrying that memory with us and choosing to keep showing up for one another with compassion, patience, and care.
