What does it mean to practice Dharma âpurelyâ?
Venerable Lozang Yönten asks us to look honestly at our motivation. Are we practicing Dharma simply to make this life easierâor to transform harmful patterns, address the deeper causes of suffering, and develop the potential of our minds?
Sometimes the most important question isnât just what we practice, but why we practice.
đż Continue exploring the mind and Buddhist practice with Venerable Yönten in Mind and Its Potential, the first module of the 14-part Discovering Buddhism program at Maitripa College.
Join us Thursdays, 6â7:30 pm PT, in person in Portland or online.

How do you know if your Dharma practice is working?
Venerable Ani Choyang reminds us that the benefits of practice may not always be obvious right away. Sometimes we see them most clearly when challenges ariseâwhen weâre able to pause instead of immediately reacting, and find another way to respond.

Death will not wait for you to get organized.
Venerable Lozang Yönten reminds us how easily Dharma practice can become something we plan to do later: Iâll get around to it. Iâll get around to transformation. Iâll get around to study.
But there is no end to plans and procrastination. The conclusion is simple and urgent: âTherefore, I must practice Dharma. I must take the medicine.â
đż Want to explore the mindâand how Buddhist practice can transform the way we relate to our lives?
Join Venerable Lozang Yönten for Mind and Its Potential, the first module in the Discovering Buddhism teaching series.

Before you speak, ask yourself one question: Is it necessary?
Venerable Ani Choyang shares a simple practice: before talking about someone or something, pause and ask whether it really needs to be said. If the answer is no, we can stop right there.

Join her at Maitripa College for conversations exploring womenâs monastic wisdom, the potential of the mind, and Buddhist approaches to anger, anxiety, and death.

Whatâs the upside to being disliked?
Venerable Lozang Yönten offers a surprising way to work with the fear of what we donât want to happen: ask what the benefit might be.
If everyone disliked you, youâd have more time. And the people who stayed around? Youâd know they really love you.
Sometimes looking directly at what we fear can help take some of the sting out of it.
