Throwback to a year ago next month! šŸ’›

As we patiently wait for baby #2 to arrive this November, we’re reflecting on this family’s beautiful birth story and feeling so grateful to be part of their growing family.

Birth story in mom’s words below:

* Contractions began at 8:30 PM on 9/26
* Arrived at the birth center at 6 AM on 9/27
* Pushed for 52 minutes before meeting our sweet boy at 1:18 PM
* Back home, cozy and together, by 6 PM that same day

I couldn’t have asked for a better birth team, a more beautiful birth suite, or the most incredible partner by my side. Seth went above and beyond in every way, ! can’t imagine doing life with anyone else.

God’s hand was over every moment, keeping us safe, healthy, and so deeply blessed.

Thank you to this family for letting us share such a special chapter of their story. We can’t wait to meet their newest little one in just a few short months! šŸ’›

Important post! Please read the caption šŸ’“

The National Foundation for Certified Professional Midwives is raising funds to support a landmark legal effort that could establish an important precedent requiring state Medicaid programs to follow the Affordable Care Act’s birth center and midwifery provisions.

To support their efforts you can donate by using this link: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/donation-form/help-us-defend-midwifery-and-birth-center-access-nationwide

More info below! šŸ‘‡

Congress created these federal protections to ensure Medicaid covers prenatal, labor and birth, and postpartum services provided by licensed birth centers and their state acknowledged providers. This includes CPMs, CNMs, CMs, and NDs in states where they are legally allowed.
In Oregon, a group of six families are asking the Oregon Supreme Court to enforce the Affordable Care Acts requirement that state Medicaid agencies reliably cover Birth center services.

This case reaches far beyond Oregon. Because the Affordable Care Act applies nationwide, the Court’s interpretation could influence how Medicaid programs across the country understand and implement these federal requirements, affecting meaningful access to community-based maternity care for countless families.

Your donation will help fund the legal work needed to support this case. The goal is to help establish a legal precedent that protects access to licensed birth center and midwifery care for families across the United States and could affect fair payment for midwives.

Together, we can help ensure the law is interpreted as Congress originally intended, strengthen access to high-quality maternity care, and preserve birth choices for generations to come.

Give today to help ensure midwifery remains a strong, recognized part of our healthcare system.

NOTE: If enough money isn’t raised the funds will go toward scholarships. No matter what midwifery care will be positively impacted by your donation.

This is a lineup of phenomenal women who have either served as midwives or learned midwifery at Andaluz Waterbirth Center. The midwives of a birth center are its soul!

The Andaluz midwives have been deeply dedicated to their clients, even staying on to attend births unpaid during the center’s final weeks. If you’d like to support them during this transition, you can donate to their GoFundMe here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-andaluz-midwives-after-sudden-closure

This photo was taken on June 27 during the center’s closing ceremony. After 27 years of serving families, the sudden closure of such a beloved and well established birth center is truly heartbreaking. According to press coverage, the closure was the result of mismanagement by its remote corporate ownership.

We remain hopeful that someone will purchase the birth center and continue Andaluz’s heartfelt mission of midwifery care.

To our clients who may be wondering whether Alma could face the same fate: we are not corporate. We are a mom and pop (mostly Mom šŸ˜€), family-owned small business with a dedicated team of midwives and staff. We are sturdy, committed, and here to continue serving you.

Looking for something fun (and free!) to do with the kids this weekend?

One of our favorite family events of the year is happening this Saturday, June 27, and we’d love to see you there!

We’ll be there rain or shine - last year’s festival was a little soggy, but that didn’t stop us from having a good time!

Tag a friend or share this with a fellow parent who would love to spend the day at this free festival hosted by PDX Parent! šŸŽ‰
