The Stroudwater bridge is officially OPEN! 🎀✂️
On Friday, we joined together with PARKS, RECREATION & FACILITIES and Mayor Dion & Councilor Phillips from City of Portland (the original one) to cut the ribbon on the bridge over the Stroudwater River. Thank you to everyone who helped us along this 10-year journey, and thanks to everyone who joined us to celebrate! This project was only possible thanks to our close partnership with our friends at the City’s Parks, Recreation & Facilities department (pictured with the PT team on the last slide).
We’re so excited for all the amazing trail connections that are possible now thanks to this bridge!

⚠️ FYI: There’s some construction underway that will affect access to the Thompson’s Point Trail this week. The trail will be temporarily closed Tuesday, Sept. 15 through Thursday, Sept. 17.
Have you heard about Riptide, the brand new mountain bike trail in the Fore River Sanctuary? 🚵♀️ The Portland Trails staff checked it out earlier this week to see just how cool this new trail is.
🛠️ Thank you to our friends at Greater Portland NEMBA for being the engine behind this project, and to Maine Trail Builders for lending their expertise and skill!
🤔 Why a mountain bike specific trail? Mountain bikers are a growing trail user base, and we love having them on our trails. By creating a designated loop trail for them to use, we can meet the needs of all our trail users while minimizing conflicting uses. Plus, the trails overall are less impacted by use AND are easier to maintain. Everybody wins!
❗️Bikers, always yield to slower trail users!
⚠️ Whether you’re mountain biking, walking, or running, PLEASE make sure to pay attention to the one-way, do not enter, and trail crossing signs!
Sneak a peek of The Art of Looking 👀 Local artist Kimberley Harding has created unique frames out of natural materials and displayed them along the PATHS Trail. Each frame highlights a unique feature and invites the viewer to take a closer look at the world around them 🖼️
Join us for The Art of Looking gallery opening this Saturday, Aug. 22nd! Come for a reception, artist remarks, and a guided walk with the artist. We hope to see you there! More info at the link in our bio.
Thanks to our friends at 82𝔓𝔞𝔯𝔯𝔦𝔰: 𝔊𝔞𝔩𝔩𝔢𝔯𝔶 for making this installation possible!

Check out these before and after shots of fallen trees from last week’s crazy storm!
Today, our trail crew was out assessing damage to the trails and cleaning up where they could. Gabe and his chainsaw were hard at work clearing the Stroudwater River Trail! Swipe to the end for a video of him chopping down a dangerous tree 🌲🪚🪵

Give back to the trails you love! 🛠️💪
Join us for a Community Volunteer Day THIS Saturday, August 15th! We’ll be working on trail maintenance in the Fore River Sanctuary, and we could use a few more hands to help. Volunteering starts at 9 a.m. and ends with a feeling of satisfaction (and like you might want to jump in the ocean). Sign up today: https://www.trails.org/get-involved/volunteer-opportunities/sign-up/
Last Saturday, 90 Guster fans spent the day giving back here in Portland, putting in 180 hours of service with 3 local organizations.
At the Preble Street Food Security Hub, 26 volunteers peeled, sliced, and cinnamon-sugared 500 apples to be dried/preserved and picked 70+ lbs of basil to be made into pesto.
With Portland Trails, 23 volunteers pruned 1/4 mile of overgrown vegetation and moved 9 yards of stone dust to surface the trail.
At East End Beach, 41 volunteers collected 121+ lbs of trash with Surfrider Foundation.
90 volunteers. 180 hours. A whole lot accomplished in 1 morning.
Thank you to every Guster fan who spent part of Guster On The Ocean giving back to Portland, and to the organizations who welcomed us and put us to work. We loved spending the morning with you! Till next time ✌️
