Tigard is getting a new park!
Construction starts this week for Steve Street Park. This new neighborhood will be 1.4 acres. It is located off of SW Steve Street and SW 84th Avenue. This park will have an open lawn, nature play areas, and play structures.
This project received funding from Metro's Local Share program. This program distributes funding to local park providers to fund community-specific parks and nature projects. Funding for the program was approved by voters in the 2019 Metro Regional Parks and Nature Bond.
Construction is estimated to be completed by the end of October 2026.

June 15–20 is Waste and Recycling Workers Week — a moment to recognize the crucial, yet often unseen work that keeps greater Portland clean and healthy.
Every day, people collect and safely manage our trash, preventing disease and harmful pollution. Others sort and process recyclable materials so they can become new products, supporting our region’s sustainability goals.
These workers are truly on the front lines of environmental stewardship. Through early mornings and all types of weather they protect both our communities and our environment.
Please take a moment this week to thank the essential workers of the garbage and recycling system.
Awareness is the first step. On May 5, 2026, Oregon Metro Council recognized National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons (MMIP). Urban Indigenous community members were invited to advocate, support, and bring awareness to this critical issue. Thank you, Keisha DeSheuquette, for sharing your personal story.
Education and action come next. Learn more about the MMIP epidemic and seek out ways to honor and support the communities experiencing these realities every day. Visit Future Generations to learn more about an upcoming opportunity to attend a special film screening event (June 13, 2026).
