We are seeking personal care items to fill the remaining bookbags we donated to Bethel Missionary Baptist Church for Fostering Hope.

These backpacks will go to foster children.

πŸŽ’ LET’S KEEP THE BLESSING GOING! ❀️

Because of the incredible generosity of our community, Behind the Chair Foundation received an overflow of donated book bags from our Back-to-School event.

Rather than allowing those extra bags to sit, we had the opportunity to pass that generosity forward by donating them to Fostering Hope, where they can be used to support children in foster care. ❀️

Now we would love your help filling those bags with personal care items!

We are accepting new hygiene and personal care items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, combs, brushes, washcloths and other everyday essentials.

And please know!! Your donation does not have to be expensive! Dollar Store items are absolutely welcome. 🧴πŸͺ₯🧼

Our community provided the bags.
Behind the Chair Foundation is helping pass the blessing forward.
And now, together, we can help fill them! πŸŽ’β€οΈ

If you would like to donate personal care items, please reach out to us.

One act of generosity can keep traveling farther than we ever imagined. πŸ’•

What a day we had yesterday! πŸ™ŒπŸ½β€οΈ

My day began at 4 a.m., loading the van with tables, decor, games and supplies from one of our sponsors, Branden’s Safe House, as we prepared for the Behind The Chair Foundation’s 1st Back to School Haircut & Bookbag Giveaway Fundraiser, hosted by House of Barbers HV !

First, we want to say THANK YOU to our community for the incredible outpouring of donations. Chris Marino even said that for our very first event, he was shocked by how much we were able to collect! That is because of YOU. Every bookbag, notebook, pencil, folder, school supply and dollar given mattered.

A huge thank you to our T-shirt sponsor, Gisele Camielle of Rosado Law Group, who had us looking like the TEAM we have become after seven months of planning, preparing, meeting and believing in this vision together.

Thank you to Yaritza Ruiz of Absolutely Clear Title, The FLOW Kingdom Ministries , and Selah Hair Studio for making it possible to have Q92 on the scene with us!

We had a great turnout and were blessed to actually have an overflow of school supplies. And because a blessing should never stop with us, those remaining supplies will continue to serve children in our community. We will be donating supplies to organizations such as Bethel Missionary Baptist Church , through their relationship with Fostering Hope Together , where remaining bookbags will be filled with personal care items and given to children in foster homes.

A gift that keeps on giving!

Scripture teaches us to be fruitful and multiply, and that is exactly what we intend to do. We are taking what you all placed into our hands and multiplying the blessing so that it reaches even further than this one event. πŸ™πŸ½

I also believe in transparency. Financially, this first fundraiser did not break even. We invested more into making this day happen than we were able to raise. But we do not look at that as defeat. We look at it as our first year of learning. We learned what worked, what didn’t, what needs to change and how we can steward our resources differently next year so that we can raise even more for the children and families we are called to serve.

And that is where we need our community.

When you see an organization offering something FREE to families, jump on board and help us spread the word. Share the flyer. Tag a family. Tell a neighbor. Invite someone.

And when you see that same organization fundraising, jump on board then too. Donate $5. Donate $10. Share the fundraiser. Become a sponsor. Volunteer. Tell somebody about the mission.

Because free services are never truly free. Someone donated. Someone sponsored. Someone volunteered. Someone sacrificed their time, talent or finances to make sure another family didn't have to pay.

Behind The Chair Foundation exists with a special heart for children impacted by parental incarceration, but ultimately, when there is an opportunity to pour into a child, we want to be there.

Yesterday wasn't just about haircuts and bookbags.

It was about community.
It was about service.
It was about planting seeds.
It was about showing children that people they may never even meet cared enough to give.

We planted. We watered. And we trust God with the increase. πŸŒ±πŸ™πŸ½

Thank you to every sponsor, donor, barber, stylist, volunteer, organization and community member who stood with us.

This was our first one.

We learned. We served. We gave. And by the grace of God, we will be back even stronger next year.

THE DAY HAS ARRIVED! πŸ™ŒπŸ½πŸŽ’βœ‚οΈ

Today is the Behind The Chair Foundation Back to School $10 Haircut fundraiser, Book Bag & School Supply Giveaway!

Behind The Chair Foundation was founded in April 2024. We have been an event focused nonprofit as we continue learning how to navigate the nuances of running a nonprofit organization with time, structure, foundational wisdom, and, of course, backed by FAITH!

As the founder, I want to personally say THANK YOU to every donor, every sponsor, every volunteer, and every single client of mine who donated funds and supplies to help make this event successful. You believed in the vision, and you helped us bring it to life.

The trades saved my life.

I was not the kid who was going to go off to college and be able to sit in a structured classroom and learn while everything around me felt like it was falling apart. The trades gave me an opportunity. They gave me a skill. They gave me something I could build on when life around me didn't always feel stable.

And THAT is part of why this foundation means so much to me.

Our goal is to help children succeed, to expose them to opportunities within the trades, and eventually to create opportunities for women returning home after incarceration while continuing our mission of helping to bridge the gap from behind bars to Behind the Chair.

Today, thank you for standing in the gap for these children. Thank you for standing behind what we believe. Thank you for being ambassadors for HOPE.

And as we continue to raise funds for our scholarship, we remain committed to helping students who have been impacted by parental incarceration, like I was, succeed, especially those who may find their purpose and their future in the trades.

This is bigger than book bags.
Bigger than haircuts.
Bigger than school supplies.

This is about letting a child know that their circumstances do not get to determine their future.

Thank you for standing with Behind The Chair Foundation. ❀️

🚨 IMPORTANT EVENT CLARIFICATION β€” PLEASE SHARE 🚨

We are extremely grateful for the excitement surrounding our upcoming event at House of Barbers on Sunday, August 23rd, but we need to immediately correct some information that was recently published about this event.

This is NOT a free haircut giveaway to the general public.

This event is a fundraiser for Behind the Chair Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with the mission of:

β€œHelping to bridge the gap from behind bars to Behind the Chair.”

βœ‚οΈ COMMUNITY HAIRCUTS ARE $10

Our volunteer barbers and stylists are generously donating their time and will not be paid for their services. The $10 community haircuts are being offered specifically to raise funds for Behind the Chair Foundation.

Our focus is helping young people who have experienced parental incarceration gain access to opportunities within the trades β€” including BOCES, vocational and trade programs, certifications, tools, supplies, and other resources that can help them build a career and create a future for themselves.

❀️ FREE HAIRCUTS FOR REGISTERED CHILDREN

We ARE providing free haircuts to a specific group of children who have experienced parental incarceration.

These children must already be registered for the program, and their information is maintained on a private and confidential registration list. This is not a public free-haircut walk-in program.

We intentionally protect the privacy and dignity of the children and families we serve. No child should ever have to publicly identify themselves as having an incarcerated parent in order to receive services.

House of Barbers is sponsoring and hosting this fundraiser in support of Behind the Chair Foundation and our mission.
