The 2026 Senior Golden Gathering was another rousing success, and County Executive Sue Serino thanks her partners – the Dutchess County Office for the Aging (OFA) and NYS Senators Rob Rolison and Michelle Hinchey – as well as the dozens of vendors, staff from various County government departments, our many volunteers, the support team from the Arlington Central School District, and (of course) the hundreds of our neighbors who came out for Saturday’s great event!

It was a pleasure to welcome so many older adults, their loved ones, and caregivers from around Dutchess County to Arlington High School for a day filled with connections, health screenings, resources, information, and so much more! If you couldn’t make it to the Golden Gathering, we invite you to check out all the OFA offers year-round at dutchessny.gov/aging.

Today is World Rabies Day, calling attention to the simple actions that help prevent rabies in our community.

Our Health Department works year‑round to keep residents safe through rabies vaccination clinics, public education, and support for individuals who may have been exposed. Keeping pets up‑to‑date on their rabies shots is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of this deadly disease.

Join us next Saturday (Oct. 3) for County Executive Sue Serino’s Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Day in partnership with the Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park. From 1–3 p.m., stop by the Poughkeepsie side of the Walkway to connect with local organizations and health providers, learn about available resources and services, and visit Northwell Health’s mobile health unit, where you can speak with a physician, ask questions and receive a brief exam.

Family-friendly crafts will also be available, including card-making to show support for individuals and families facing a breast cancer diagnosis. Learn more: https://www.dutchessny.gov/Departments/County-Executive/Breast-Cancer-Awareness-Day-2026.htm

September is National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, a crucial reminder that early detection saves lives.

As part of County Executive Sue Serino’s continued campaign, men 50 and older, and those with a family history of prostate cancer, are urged to speak with their provider about when screening is right for them. Early conversations lead to better outcomes.

Let’s help the men in our lives stay ahead of prostate cancer.
