Powhatan County Public Library
The current library was constructed in 2001 and the building was dedicated on November 3, 2001. The Library is a department of the Powhatan County government.
The Powhatan County Public Library was first organized by volunteers to serve the residents of Powhatan on April 13, 1975 and was officially recognized as the County’s Library by the Powhatan Board of Supervisors on May 9, 1988. It is locally funded through a revenue appropriation made by the Board of Supervisors of Powhatan County, Virginia. The Library also receives state aid funding from the Library of Virginia. The purpose of the library is to acquire, organize, provide access and offer guidance to a broad range of information, materials, and services. Primarily, this mission is to encourage their use to help fulfill the intellectual, educational, social, cultural, community, and recreational needs of all people in the County.

Our Tween Book Club will be meeting October 22nd from 5:30-6:30pm. We will be discussing "Scary Stories for Young Foxes" by Christian McKay Heidicker.
The haunted season has arrived in the Antler Wood. No fox kit is safe.
When Mia and Uly are separated from their litters, they discover a dangerous world full of monsters. In order to find a den to call home, they must venture through field and forest, facing unspeakable things that dwell in the darkness: a zombie who hungers for their flesh, a witch who tries to steal their skins, a ghost who hunts them through the snow... and other things too scary to mention.
Featuring eight interconnected stories and sixteen hauntingly beautiful illustrations, "Scary Stories for Young Foxes" contains the kinds of adventures and thrills you love to listen to beside a campfire in the dark of night.

The James River Master Naturalists will be collecting acorns and nuts for the Virginia Department of Forestry at PCPL from October 1st through 7th. The collection bin will be located outside the library.
If you’d like to participate in seed collection, use the following guidelines:
• Collect the acorns and nuts in a bag made of breathable material (e.g., paper or burlap). Make sure the tree is correctly identified. No plastic bags, please!
• Make sure each bag of acorns or nuts is labeled with the tree species, location and date. Do not mix species in the same bag. If you don’t know the species, drop a leaf from the tree into the bag.
• Store collected acorns or nuts in a cool area (not a freezer) for no more than 10 days before delivering to a drop-off location. If necessary, acorns and nuts may be placed in a refrigerator for a short period of time
See the Virginia DoF's website for acorn and nut identification guidance:
