🌧️💨 A nor’easter is quite the way to welcome October!
After a stormy few days across the East Coast, it’s a great time to remind kids that there’s a whole lot of math and science behind the weather we experience.
Meteorologists use data, technology, and mathematical models to track storms, measure wind speeds, monitor rainfall, and predict where a storm may travel next. Here in Rhode Island, understanding weather is especially important as forecasters also keep an eye on our coastline, tides, waves, and the potential for coastal flooding. 🌊
Try turning the latest storm into a learning moment:
🌧️ How much rain fell in your area?
💨 What was the strongest wind gust?
🌡️ How did the temperature change before and after the storm?
🗺️ Can you follow the storm’s path on a weather map?
Sometimes the best STEAM lessons are happening right outside our windows!
Here’s to a (hopefully!) calmer start to October. 🍂
