We mean "stop" particularly when you're shopping for paper for your artwork....it's an over-used term to avoid in this situation and we thought a good topic to discuss.
So for AAPI month, we want to share some information about “rice paper” and why it is a misnomer that lumps together so many different kinds of Asian papers…that are not necessarily made of rice!
We are not claiming the term "rice paper" is not appropriate sometimes (the food, the pith of tetrapanax, paper made with rice straw and husks, etc). We want to encourage you to ask more specific questions when shopping for paper for your artwork. We strongly encourage you to learn about the different papermaking traditions in Asia and beyond and to help support these longstanding cultural histories.
