Reentry Campus Program (RCP) helps current & formerly incarcerated people get a college education.

James Monteiro is the founder and director of the Reentry Campus Program. He works both within and outside the Adult Correction Institution of Rhode Island to ensure that currently and formerly incarcerated individuals have a pathway that is integrated into the support systems needed upon release. Rhode Island is setting the national standard for higher education in prison by being the only correctional education program in America offering both CLEP and DSST testing, becoming the first program in the United States to saturate an entire state Department of Corrections with CLEP testing centers in every correctional facility and offering 67 different college credit-by-exam courses. RCP is paving the way for students to have autonomy and succeed!

RCP is going to New Orleans October 20–23 for the National Reentry Workforce Collaborative conference, in partnership with Polaris. Workforce development for people coming home from incarceration only works if education is part of the pipeline — that’s the conversation we’re bringing.

Rcp will be presenting at Brown University Health at the intersection of prison higher education and public health. We are excited to come together with other organizations that do amazing advocacy work in Rhode Island!
