We’re looking forward to welcoming Gloria Crist back to Camp BraveHeart as we celebrate our 20th anniversary this August 20-21! Gloria returns to Camp BraveHeart for a meaningful full-circle moment: to lead a special workshop with our campers and officially launch her debut children’s book, MamaOak and the Seasons of Grief.

Through the story of a young girl named CC and the comforting presence of Mama Oak, the book explores living, loving, and loss—and how art and nature can help us navigate grief and healing. Each camper will go home with their own copy of the book.

The launch at Camp BraveHeart will also mark the first stop in Gloria’s year-long arts and health series, supported by a Rhode Island State Council on the Arts grant, exploring the important role the arts can play in health, self-care, community care, and helping combat loneliness and isolation.

We’re honored to have Gloria join us for this milestone year and to be part of such a meaningful moment. We can’t wait to welcome her back to Camp BraveHeart! 💚

Some people remember a meal. Others remember how it made them feel. ❤️

When Paul Ferrara's wife, AnnMarie, was receiving care at the HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center, he spent 15 straight days by her side.

In those moments, the HopeHealth kitchen became more than a place where meals were prepared—it became his refuge.

As Paul wrote in a heartfelt letter to our Dining Services team:

"The kitchen became my refuge... Those three kind, beautiful women kept me strong enough to answer the bell and to fight a fight I knew I was going to lose."

Growing up with Italian roots, Paul knew something many of us have heard our whole lives: food is a labor of love. But what he received wasn't just food.

It was kindness.
It was compassion.
It was people who knew his name, asked how he was doing, and made sure he was cared for, too.

Paul wanted to recognize Javone Duarte and Dining Services team members Emily Faria, Rachel Pimentel, and Mary Talbot, whose care nourished both body and soul. He also shared his appreciation for Shannon Pimental and Guy Murgo, whose support helped make an incredibly difficult time just a little more bearable.

We're grateful to every member of our Dining Services team who remind us that healing doesn't always come from medicine. Sometimes, it begins with a warm meal, a familiar face, and a little extra love served on the side. ❤️

HopeHealth was proud to be part of the nursing student career fair at CCRI's Warwick campus this week!

Our Volunteer Services Manager, Diane Taveira, enjoyed meeting the next generation of nurses and connecting with students who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of others.

Thank you to CCRI for hosting such a great event and to all the students who stopped by our table. We look forward to seeing where your journeys take you!

Remembering to care for ourselves is important for everyone, but it can be especially difficult when you're grieving or caring for someone you love.

During those seasons, it's easy to put your own needs aside. Yet even small moments of self-care can help restore your energy, bring a sense of calm, and remind you that your well-being matters, too.

Today, we invite you to be gentle with yourself. Here are a few simple ways to practice self-care:

💙 Step outside for a few minutes of fresh air.
💙 Reach out to a friend or loved one.
💙 Take a break without feeling guilty.
💙 Nourish your body with a meal or a glass of water.
💙 Allow yourself to rest when you need it.

Self-care won't take away grief or the challenges of caregiving, but it can help you care for yourself with the same compassion you so often extend to others.
