Yesterday was a special day for members of the HopeHealth community. 🇺🇸

HopeHealth volunteer and Navy veteran Ron Winde of Warwick took part in the RI Fire Chiefs Honor Flight, traveling to Washington, D.C., for a day honoring the service and sacrifice of our nation’s veterans. Ron’s wife, Loretta Winde, HopeHealth’s Senior Director of Quality & Compliance, was among the HopeHealth team members who gathered at T.F. Green Airport to send him off.

Also making the journey was Diane Taveira, HopeHealth’s Manager of Volunteer Services, who accompanied a veteran from her hometown of Bristol, Rhode Island.

Ron also had the support of fellow HopeHealth volunteer and Navy veteran Frank Rodrigues of Tiverton, who took his own Honor Flight this past May and came out to support Ron on his journey.

HopeHealth is on Capitol Hill! As the National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation Washington Leadership Conference kicked off in Washington, D.C., on September 30, HopeHealth President & CEO Diana Franchitto and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Edward Martin met with members of Rhode Island’s congressional delegation, including U.S. Representative Gabe Amo and U.S. Senators Sheldon Whitehouse and Jack Reed.

During their visits, they thanked the delegation for its support of HopeHealth and shared updates on our organization and the national hospice and palliative care landscape. Diana, who also serves as NPHI Board Chair, delivered opening remarks at the conference, which runs through October 2. We're proud to have our leaders representing HopeHealth on the national stage, advocating for hospice and palliative care and the patients and families we serve.

We’re excited to welcome Helena L. Moronta to HopeHealth as our new Director of Community Engagement.

Helena will lead a new community engagement program focused on strengthening HopeHealth’s connections and partnerships within the communities we serve.

This work is supported by a generous $200,000 grant from POC Foundation, which is helping HopeHealth expand community outreach and education around hospice and palliative care, grief support and resources for family caregivers.

We’re grateful to Papitto Opportunity Connection for making this important work possible, and we look forward to the relationships and conversations Helena will help foster as the program takes shape.

Yesterday, our volunteers came together for a wonderful potluck filled with delicious food, great conversation, and meaningful connection. Following lunch, Breda Hines, Patient Care Manager, led an insightful in-service on navigating difficult conversations at the end of life.

These conversations can be some of the most challenging moments our volunteers encounter, and Breda shared valuable guidance for approaching them with compassion, sensitivity, and confidence.

We are so grateful for our dedicated volunteers and for opportunities like these to gather, learn from one another, and continue strengthening the compassionate support we provide to patients and families.
