Milky Way spent her entire life with her beloved person. Sadly, when they passed away, she found herself starting over. It’s $5 Friday, and today we’re rallying around one very special senior.

Robert Red-ferred went in for his much-needed dental today, and his procedure will cost our rescue about $2,000. Unfortunately, Robert isn’t alone. Right now, we have more than five cats waiting for desperately needed dentals, and each one typically costs $1,500–$2,000. These procedures are one of our biggest medical expenses, but they’re also life-changing—relieving pain, treating infection, and giving cats a much better quality of life.

Robert came to Ten Lives Cat Rescue through Ocean State Veterinary Specialists’ Good Samaritan Program, and from the moment he arrived, he made it clear he had opinions about absolutely everything. Between his larger-than-life personality and his hilariously unique meow, it’s impossible not to fall in love with him.

Today also brought some unexpected news. Although Robert’s bloodwork had previously been normal, his glucose levels were incredibly high, and we’re now concerned that he may have diabetes. We’ll be doing additional testing and follow-up, but we’re hoping for the best while preparing for whatever comes next.

💚 $7 Saturday for Olives 💚

We’re facing a $2,500 emergency veterinary bill for Olives, who is currently hospitalized at Bay State Veterinary Services after developing a dangerously high 106° fever.

The scariest part? We had no idea she was sick.

Olives went to the vet veterinarian for what should have been a routine distemper booster. Instead, we learned she had a life-threatening fever and rushed her straight to the emergency hospital.

She has now spent two nights hospitalized they work to stabilize her and determine what’s wrong. Bloodwork showed a significantly elevated white blood cell count, suggesting her body is fighting a serious infection. Thankfully, her fever has started to come down with supportive care, but we still don’t have the answers we were hoping for.

Olives wasn’t supposed to become a rescue cat. She came to us through our community cat program after being trapped by our volunteer, Dana, for Trap-Neuter-Return. After her spay surgery, she had an incredibly difficult recovery from anesthesia and barely ate for a week. We brought her in for a sick exam and bloodwork, but everything came back normal. Then, just as suddenly as it started, she recovered.

Because she stayed in our care longer than expected, we discovered she wasn’t meant to return outdoors. She slowly began to trust people, so instead of returning her to her colony, we transitioned her into foster care with the hope of finding her a loving home.

We may never know what caused a cat who seemed perfectly healthy to spike a 106° fever, but we do know this. Olives deserves every chance to recover, and we’re committed to fighting for her.

🐾 Meet Sesame 🐾

Some cats walk into a room expecting everyone to notice them.

Sesame waits quietly, watching.

She's the kind of cat who likes to take in the world before deciding it's safe to be part of it. At first, she'll happily observe from a sunny windowsill or cozy corner. Then, little by little, she'll begin to close the distance.

That's where Sesame's magic happens.

Sesame is a wonderfully sweet girl who genuinely wants affection. She's just learning that she doesn't have to be brave all at once. Give her a little patience, and she'll melt your heart with small moments—sometimes hopping up to meet your hand when she's ready for pets.

When she's feeling playful, Sesame transforms. She'll stalk her favorite wand toy with ninja-like focus before launching into an impressive pounce. Watching her play is like watching confidence bloom in real time.

When playtime is over, she's happiest birdwatching, napping, sharing slow blinks, and carefully inspecting every treat to make sure it meets her standards.

Sesame would thrive in a calm home without young children. She gets along well with other cats and may enjoy a confident feline friend, but she'd also be happy as your one-and-only if you're willing to let your bond grow at her pace.

The best relationships aren't always the ones that happen instantly. Sometimes they're built one slow blink at a time.
