This is why you need to get your feet underneath you prior to a shot!
Who has this happened to recently 😂
Have a focus for every rep!! Every drill you are in the net, pick something you want to work on. It can be about movement, tracking, body positioning, and more. But pick one something to do every rep, and make sure you accomplish that, no matter if it’s a save or a goal. Improvement comes from practicing a single principal rather than several aspects at a time.
Sometimes making a great saves comes comes at a cost 😂
Thank you to all the coaches who came out for the first ever Coach Utah Coaching Clinic!
The goal of this clinic is to give coaches the knowledge and resources to provide better coaching for their goalies, even if they do not have goalie experience themselves. If this is something that is of interest to you, please send me a message and we’ll get connected.
It was a great turnout for both the on-ice portion and the classroom session. For the coaches who attended and for those of you out there following this journey, this would not be possible without you. Thank you! I hope to do this again soon!
And a big shoutout to for being an amazing host and making this possible!

Lateral release into RVH bumpouts.
Make sure every practice, every drill, and every rep you do has a purpose 👊
Depth is constantly changing! In two different scenarios, you can be aggressive with your depth or conservative with your depth depending on the shot and pass options around you, even if the puck is in the same spot in those cases. The play is constantly moving and changing, so should your depth.
Hands to the puck! Project your hands out at the puck when the shot is in close quarters.
Why is hand projection important? Simple: hand projection takes up more net. Just as goalies gain depth or challenge the shooter to physically cover more net, projecting your hands out towards the puck takes up more net, giving you a much better chance of making the save.
