NC State ISE
The Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) at NC State is one of only five named ISE departments in the United States.
It ranks among the top 15 programs in the country according to U.S. News and World Report. The department currently has a rich and diverse research portfolio in advanced and biomedical manufacturing, health systems, human-systems, production systems and logistics, systems analytics and optimization. ISE also supports two other academic programs – Operations Research and Integrated Manufacturing Systems Engineering.

Can VR change the way you think? Most people associate virtual reality with gaming. However, researchers at NC State are exploring something much bigger. Associate Professor Karen Chen and Ph.D. student Fangyuan Cheng are studying how immersive technology can help people learn, solve problems and process information more effectively. Their research shows that thoughtful design, including visual cues, learning prompts and natural gestures, may shape the future of classrooms, workplace training and augmented reality.
