Today was the annual swarm demonstration for the Bees and Beekeeping class. The queen is in a cage hanging on the pole. The students get an up close look at honey bee behavior during a swarm which is always the highlight of the semester.

This feral colony of honey bees is located next to a heavily traveled sidewalk and was becoming a concern. Instead, it has become a great opportunity to educate the general public! Thank you to all involved in helping to protect the honey bees.

The Great Southeast Pollinator Census on August 21 and 22 is a community science project that invites folks of all ages to observe and count pollinators in their yards and neighborhoods. This annual event aims to collect data on pollinator population levels and educate the public on the importance of pollinators.
