Public Ed Works is a nonpartisan organization that builds support for public education in North Carolina. We think our elected officials should, too.

According to Article IX, Section 9 of the North Carolina Constitution, “The General Assembly shall provide that the benefits of The University of North Carolina and other public institutions of higher education, as far as practicable, be extended to the people of the State free of expense.”

We take those words seriously. North Carolina’s public universities and community colleges are the crown jewels of the state. Our children and grandchildren deserve the opportunity to get a quality education at an affordable price. Bringing together supporters, employers, and the 765,000 graduates of the University system who live in North Carolina, we will remind lawmakers that higher education works. The 17 campuses of the University of North Carolina are Appalachian State University, East Carolina University, Elizabeth City State University, Fayetteville State University, North Carolina A&T State University, North Carolina Central University, North Carolina State University, UNC Asheville, UNC-Chapel Hill, UNC Charlotte, UNC Greensboro, UNC Pembroke, UNC Wilmington, UNC School of the Arts, Western Carolina University, Winston-Salem State University, and the NC School of Science and Mathematics.
