Rise Against Hunger
Stop Hunger Now rebranded to become Rise Against Hunger in 2017 and still remains driven by Ray’s vision of a world without hunger.
We help underserved people worldwide achieve food security and resilience through nutrition, education and economic empowerment, fueled by a global movement of volunteers and partners. In 1998, envisioning a world without hunger, Ray Buchanan — a United Methodist minister — founded Stop Hunger Now with the goal of providing food and other assistance to people facing hunger around the world. Driving Rise Against Hunger’s work is the recognition that ending hunger is more than just feeding people. Through our Pathways to End Hunger, we focus on both providing immediate nourishment for those in need today and implementing sustainable solutions that will lift entire communities for years to come. Our Empowering Communities pathway promotes improvements in agricultural production and rural livelihoods to help individuals increase their incomes and access to food. While long-term food security takes root, our Nourishing Lives pathway provides nutrition through safety net programs and encourages education, vocational training and health services that support the difficult journey out of poverty. From droughts to floods, in conflict zones and political crises, everyday access to food, wages and market systems can be destroyed in the wake of emergencies. The Responding to Emergencies pathway deploys food and other assistance in communities when it is needed most. Rise Against Hunger recognizes that hunger will not end without the fourth pathway of Growing a Global Movement by engaging hundreds of thousands of volunteers and advocates each year through our meal packaging program, virtual engagement opportunities and other initiatives. These Hunger Champions build awareness and activation surrounding the importance of ending world hunger.

Every month, meals and other aid leave our warehouses to travel to communities around the world. Getting these critical shipments where they’re needed requires careful coordination, strong partnerships and a shared commitment to communities facing hunger.
In September, that work continued as Rise Against Hunger shipped 14 containers to our global partners:
📦 2 containers to International Care Ministries in the Philippines
📦 3 containers to Convoy of Hope in El Salvador
📦 6 containers to Convoy of Hope in the Philippines
📦 2 containers to Children of Vietnam in Vietnam
📦 1 container of emergency aid to our partners in Venezuela
Each shipment is one part of a much bigger journey. Our in-country partners ensure meals and resources reach the communities we serve to help meet immediate needs while supporting long-term pathways toward food security.
To our partners, volunteers and supporters who help make this work possible: thank you for helping move us closer to a world without hunger.
It starts with a meal® and ends in self-reliance.

When a meal is delivered, the story doesn't end there.
It continues the next morning when a child walks into school ready to learn.
For students like Máximo in rural Honduras, that's exactly what happened.
Before his school began receiving Rise Against Hunger meals through one of our partners, lunch often meant snacks with little nutritional value. Today, nutritious school meals help students stay energized, focused and ready to learn. Máximo now enjoys reading with his parents, playing with classmates and dreaming about his future.
Teachers have noticed the difference, too. Children who once struggled to concentrate are now more focused, active and engaged in the classroom. Attendance has increased, and students are arriving ready to learn because they no longer have to face the school day hungry.
This is what happens when a delivery arrives.
But there are still more children waiting for that same opportunity.
Today, you can help send the next delivery. Your gift helps provide nutritious meals that fuel learning, strengthen communities and create opportunities that last far beyond the classroom.
Donate today and help deliver hope — one meal, one child and one community at a time: https://hubs.li/Q04zxj8Z0
Because every journey toward hope starts somewhere. It starts with a meal.®

Every delivery has someone waiting on the other end.
For 10-year-old Haudiel, that someone was him.
When work became scarce for his parents and his stepfather suffered a spinal injury, putting nutritious meals on the table became increasingly difficult. Some days, his family had only one meal to share.
Then a delivery arrived.
Not at his front door, but at his school.
Through Rise Against Hunger's local partner, Haudiel began receiving regular, nutritious meals as part of his school's feeding program. Those meals have helped him grow stronger, stay focused in class and build toward the future he dreams about.
Today, Haudiel proudly shares, "The nurse tells me I have a good weight and height for my age." He also believes eating well has helped him learn faster in school.
Most of us will never meet the children at the end of these deliveries.
But every meal packaged, every gift given and every partnership built helps make moments like this possible.
Because every journey toward hope starts somewhere.
Your gift helps start that journey and get boxes into the hands of children like Haudiel.

Every delivery starts somewhere.
When you order dinner, you might get a notification that says, "Your order is being prepared."
For a Rise Against Hunger meal, that's where the journey begins, too.
Except this delivery won't arrive in 15 minutes.
It begins with volunteers carefully packaging each meal by hand. From there, thousands of meals are packed into boxes and begin a journey across land and sea before reaching our in-country partners, who help deliver them into the hands of children and families around the world.
The distance is greater.
The journey is longer.
But the destination is worth every mile.
Because before a meal can nourish a child, someone has to start the journey.

The impact of a meal extends far beyond just easing hunger for a day.
Nutritious meals help students stay focused in school. They help families stretch limited household resources. They support healthier communities and create opportunities for people to work toward brighter futures.
That's why Rise Against Hunger's work goes beyond food alone. Every meal is part of a larger effort to strengthen communities through nutrition, education and economic empowerment.
Because when one need is met, new possibilities begin to grow.

What can 500+ volunteers do in one day? Fill an entire shipping container with nourishment and hope!
Earlier this week, volunteers gathered at CURE Insurance Arena in New Jersey, for “Trenton Plates, the World Takes,” a day of service hosted by Cross Community. Since 2024, the annual event has brought together churches, schools, businesses and community groups to take action against hunger.
This year, volunteers packaged more than 285,000 meals — enough to fill a shipping container!
Our work focuses on supporting communities as they move toward self-reliance, and these meals help make this possible! The meals will be distributed to complement nutrition, education and economic empowerment programs that fuel long-term food security and resilience.

A meal can travel thousands of miles. Its impact reaches even farther.
Nutritious meals help students stay in school. They give families room to invest in tomorrow instead of worrying only about today. They strengthen communities through local partnerships that continue long after the meals have been distributed.
That's why your support matters.
When you volunteer, advocate or give, you're helping create opportunities that extend beyond the meal itself.
Follow along this fall as we continue sharing the stories, partnerships and communities that remind us why this work matters and why, together, we can build a world without hunger.

“No child should go hungry. And if I can play even a small part in helping change that, I’m honored to do it.”
When Drew Raskin moved from New Jersey to Georgia, he was looking for a way to give back, meet people and find a sense of belonging. He found all three through Rise Against Hunger.
He first started volunteering at our Atlanta warehouse, helping prep and organize supplies. Then, he helped facilitate a meal packaging event with Dunwoody UMC.
He saw firsthand how individual contributions make a big impact that day. From measuring ingredients to sealing bags and packing boxes, each volunteer’s actions led to 285,000 meals being packaged for people around the world.
Every action — big or small — makes a difference. Ready to see what your hands can help accomplish?

United Airlines is once again turning its commitment to service into meaningful action.
From August to November, in celebration of United's 100th anniversary, they are hosting Season of Service, a 100-day employee volunteer campaign that impacts communities around the world. And we’re honored to be one of the supporting nonprofits! Across 28 meal packaging events, 2,200 volunteers are coming together to package more than 650,000 meals, helping expand access to nutritious food in communities around the world. It’s off to a great start, with 250,000 meals packaged so far!
These events are about more than what happens in a few hours. They demonstrate what's possible when a company empowers its people to serve alongside local communities and nonprofit partners.
United’s partnership extends beyond meal packaging, too. We are one of four nonprofits that receive donated miles from MileagePlus members. In honor of Hunger Action Month, United is matching all miles donated by September 30, up to 5 million miles.
To everyone at United, thank you for helping build a world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive!

For nearly two decades, Elon University has turned the start of a new school year into an opportunity to help end world hunger. And this year was no different!
160 students came together earlier this month for a Rise Against Hunger meal packaging event, one of the university’s annual back-to-school traditions since 2008.
This year, students packaged over 24,000 meals — and Elon surpassed 500,000 meals packaged through our 18-year partnership! To celebrate, we presented the university with a gong to commemorate the impact students have made over the years.
The meals packaged by Elon volunteers support nutrition, education and economic empowerment programs, helping communities build resilience and self-reliance to no longer need our support one day.
