Originally from Berkeley CA, and now living in Shasta County, singer/ songwriter, Steve Cheek known as Harmonica Steve, grew up in a musical family.
His early musical influences include the big band sound of the 1940s the Beatles and the San Francisco rock sound of the late 60s and country music. He played bass and guitar in local bands through his high school years. His harmonica style took shape after hearing harmonica player Lee Oskar in the mid 70s.
After a long hiatus of 45 years he re- entered the music world in 2015 collaborating with singer/songwriter Samijo and played over a hundred gigs throughout Shasta county. He now plays harmonica and does vocals with several local musicians including Mary Ann Coty. Steve is currently working on his debut album with Bruce Turgon at After Hours Recorders in Redding CA. The album, which includes eleven original songs, three written with songwriting partner Brittany Butcher, is infused with a variety of genres like folk, country and early rock is set to release in Mid-2017.
