Spellbinders Festival, the world’s largest free international festival of magic, returns to Northern Nevada October 2-4, 2026. World champions of magic from around the globe will perform at eight libraries, with additional Gala performances at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts. All performances are free to the public. For free tickets to the October 3 Pioneer Center shows, visit any Washoe County Library location. : This weekend, the South Valleys Regional Park will host hundreds of families attending the Reno APEX Soccer Club Reno Nevada Cup. The South Valleys Library will be open for its regularly scheduled hours, but parking is expected to be a challenge when visiting the library on Saturday, September 26, and Sunday, September 27, from 8 am until dark. Please allow extra time for parking, and we apologize for any inconvenience.

The Sierra View Library celebrated the spirit of Dolly Parton on "9 to 5" day (9/25), reminding all of us that books give you wings! Dolly Parton was a huge supporter of libraries and access to books, leading her to found Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, which has provided over 300 million free books to children over the last 31 years. "Who knows, maybe there is a little girl whose dream is to be a writer and singer. The seeds of these dreams are often found in books and the seeds you help plant in your community can grow across the world." - Dolly Parton

Ahoy, mateys! Set sail for an afternoon of creativity and adventure at the Sparks Library on Tuesday, October 6 at 1 pm! Families with children ages 5+ can build their very own cardboard pirate ship and enjoy a special showing of "Muppet Treasure Island!"

: In partnership with Washoe County, Nevada - Government and the WC Green Team, the Sparks Library is performing some landscape upgrades. Congratulations to Collection Development Manager and acting Assistant Library Director Debi Stears, who was honored this morning with a Silver Star for Education & Lifelong Learning at Truckee Meadows Tomorrow's annual Accentuate the Positive event. Debi was nominated by her colleagues for her outstanding leadership during an extended period without a library director, as well as for keeping Washoe County, Nevada - Government residents connected with the latest books and informational resources. The library and all of our amazing patrons benefit from Debi's commitment and professionalism, and we couldn't be prouder of her for this recognition!
