What a great weekend!

I’m so thankful for everyone who stopped by the Howling Holmes booth, shopped, chatted, and supported my little business. It was so good to be back in Maple Valley, and it’s always a good time at the Haunted Market.

I’m heading into the week tired, grateful, and already looking forward to the next one. Thank you for continuing to support Howling Holmes and allowing me to keep doing something I truly love!

My school got new carpet this summer, which sounds exciting until you realize that “new carpet” also means “congratulations, you’re moving your entire classroom.”

Every. Single. Piece. Of. Furniture.

Thankfully, my husband married me BEFORE I became a teacher, so there was absolutely no way for him to know that one day “for better or worse” would include moving desks, tables, shelves and cabinets around an elementary classroom.

Yesterday he helped me move everything back in and get the room arranged, while I contributed by saying things like, “Wait… maybe that should go over there instead.”

Today I officially moved into decoration mode. Bulletin boards are going up, things are finding their homes, and I’ve reached the stage where I’ll spend 20 minutes deciding if something is crooked, fix it, step back, and decide it was better the first time.

Slowly but surely, it’s starting to look like my classroom again.

But apparently one full-time job at a time isn’t really my thing.

So tonight I’ll be up late making a whole bunch of Jimothy shirts to drop off at Whidbey Island Trading Co later this week.

Bulletin boards by day. Jimothy by night.

August is going great.

MARKET STORY

I had a customer stop by the Haunted Market this afternoon looking for a specific shirt. Unfortunately, I had sold out of his size.

I told him no problem—I’d be happy to make one just for him and ship it to him for free. That’s one of the little perks of placing a custom order with me at a market: if I don’t have what you need with me, I’ll make it and ship it to you at no extra charge.

He said that sounded great…and then decided he wanted to order one for his mom too.

So I pulled out my folder of T-shirt color options.

His reaction when he realized I offer more than 60 different tee colors was pretty great. He started looking through them and immediately stopped at Rose Quartz.

“My mom will love this!”

And just like that, what started as me being sold out of one shirt turned into two custom shirts—one of them picked especially for Mom.

These are the little interactions I love about doing markets. You might not see the exact color, size, or combination you want hanging in my booth, but that doesn’t mean I can’t make it for you.

I think Mom is going to be pretty happy with his choice.
