When we use the term "challenging behaviors" when referring to a resident's method of communication, we are placing the focus on ourselves as caregivers rather than on our residents. Being mindful of the language we use in our facilities can make a huge difference in the culture we create in our workplaces, as well as the quality of care we provide to our residents.
