Rio Rancho is our home, and keeping it clean takes all of us.

RRPD is proud to support the Keep Rio Rancho Beautiful Community Clean-Up on Saturday, Sept. 26. Residents, families, neighborhood groups, businesses, and organizations are invited to help pick up litter and care for public spaces throughout the community.

Registered volunteers will receive trash bags and personal protective supplies before the event.

Our officers spend every day in Rio Rancho's neighborhoods, parks, and streets, and we know how much pride residents take in the places they call home. This clean-up is one simple way we can all help make those shared spaces cleaner and more welcoming.

The memories of September 11, 2001, are just as vivid.
The day will forever remain deeply etched in our nation’s history.

All who serve at the Rio Rancho Police Department pause today to honor the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives and the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice.

We remember the 23 NYPD officers, 37 Port Authority Police officers, and 343 firefighters who ran toward unimaginable danger to protect others.

Today, we remember their courage.
We honor their sacrifice.
We remember the families who never got to see their loved ones come home.

Twenty-five years later, their sacrifice still matters.
Their courage still inspires.
And their memory will never be forgotten.

The Germaine Casey Car Seat Clinic was a success with 23 car seat inspections that took place.

It is very important to have your car seat checked. 14 out of the 23 car seats were found to be installed incorrectly.

You have a second chance on September 26, 2026 at the Target located at 4225 Crestview Dr SE from 9:00am to 11:00am.

If you can’t make it, you can call the Police Department to have a certified car seat tech inspect your car seat for proper installation.

This morning, Rio Rancho PD worked with the New Mexico Department of Wildlife to safely capture a bear in the Cabezon area. The bear was tranquilized and will be relocated to Northern New Mexico. Officials have confirmed this is a different bear from the one recently seen in Rio Rancho.

If you see a bear, contact the NM Department of Wildlife at (888) 248-6866 or call 911 if it poses an immediate public safety threat.

Today, we pause to remember Officer Germaine Casey. Officer Casey made the ultimate sacrifice on August 27, 2007, in the line of duty while serving in a presidential motorcade in support of President George W. Bush.
Officer Casey's courage, commitment, and selfless service to the Rio Rancho community and his country will never be forgotten. His legacy lives on through the officers who continue to serve with honor, the community he helped protect, and the loved ones who continue to carry his memory.
We honor Officer Casey's sacrifice and extend our deepest gratitude to his family, friends, and fellow officers.

Update: Cancel Brittany Alert - Rio Rancho PD

It's a big day at the Rio Rancho Police Department as we recognize a promotion and welcome three experienced officers to the team!

Congratulations to Ethan Koger, who has been promoted to Corporal. Koger joined RRPD in 2022 and has served in several additional roles, including Crisis Negotiator, Field Training Officer, and Background Investigator.

RRPD is also welcoming Yolanda Marshall, Robert Marshall, and Steven Llamas, three experienced law enforcement officers who were recently sworn in by Chief Stewart Steele. After completing an abbreviated field training program, they'll begin serving the Rio Rancho community.

Congratulations to Corporal Koger, and welcome to our newest RRPD officers!

Help us congratulate Mekaila Carmack on completing the Public Safety Telecommunicator Academy, a training program that prepares emergency dispatchers to answer calls, gather critical information, and coordinate resources for police, fire, and other emergency responders.

As a public safety telecommunicator, Mekaila will be one of the voices helping residents during emergencies and supporting first responders in the field.
