Setting a fossilized dinosaur bone cabochon is such a powerful and moving experience. Remnants of history framed in modern artwork. I’ve been on a quest to set gems other than traditional Southwest turquoise for a while now. Dino bone IS my bag baby! This hefty cuff will be available this weekend at booth FR N 334!

Started smithing in 2006. It’s been 20yrs. Holy smokes time has flown by! First ever “show” was the Crownpoint rug auction in ‘08. SFIM ‘09 and HGIF&M in ‘10. LP torch poured ingot fissure split during the shaping process. What once caused shame and embarrassment is what I now love and embrace. As long as the pocket doesn’t cause integrity issues, I’m cool with it. Sand, tufa and ingot casting have all been trial and error. When I did get serious about silversmithing, my pop’s health was declining fast and we got three sit down lessons in. The fourth was supposed to be for stamping. “Son, next time we’ll go over stamp combinations.” Sadly he passed a few months later. I still have dreams when he visits and in them I still can’t bring myself to ask him to teach me because I know it was more important to learn on my own than to treat his last days as a cash grab for knowledge. His heart had stopped for several hours at that point. The brothers were all by his side, Kelly, Greg, Russ, Clay and I and we started remembering the fun times and repeating his go-to phrases. We were all laughing, and that’s when I noticed the smile on his face. Why am I sharing this? No idea. Just get sentimental sometimes. Age will never quench that child like excitement of showing your parents something you made.
