Safe Routes to School (SRTS) programs use a comprehensive approach to make school routes safer for children to walk and bike to school.

Community leaders, parents and schools are using these programs to better the lives of children one step at a time. Safe Routes to School programs are a sustained effort that involves bringing the right mix of people together: parents, schools, community leaders and local, state, and federal governments to improve the health and well-being of children, including those with disabilities, by identifying the issues and finding ways to improve and make walking or biking to school more safe. By making it safer to walk or bike to school, Safe Routes To School programs promotes healthy, active lifestyles and creates the foundation for a more vibrant community.

Attention American Football Fans!

For Super Bowl LX on February 8th, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Riverside University Health System - Public Health (RUHS PH) are teaming up to remind drivers: Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk.

🏈 Get ahead of the game and create your plan now.

🚘 If you’re going out to a Super Bowl party and you plan to drink alcohol, make sure you plan for a designated driver to get you home safely at the end of the night.

🍟 If you’re hosting a party, prepare plenty of food and non-alcoholic drink options for your guests, especially for the designated drivers.

🏆 If you’re a designated driver, be the night’s MVP and keep that commitment front and center.

📲 If anyone spots a drunk driver, contact your local law enforcement.

Ring in the New Year safely!

Keep the season’s festive lights in front of you — not flashing in your rearview mirror. A sober ride is the only way to roll during the holidays.

Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.

Buckle up. Every trip. Every time.

During the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in 2023, there were 309 people killed in traffic crashes across the United States. 44% were unrestrained.

Wearing your seat belt is the single most effective way to stay alive. Before you turn the key, buckle up so you arrive alive. For your family. For your friends. For yourself.

🚗💭 April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month! This month reminds us to be more aware of our actions when behind the wheel. We should always put safety first by keeping our eyes on the road, hands on the wheel, and phones away from us until we’ve safely arrived at our destination.

04/18/2024

Take action today. Pledge to stop driving distracted and get home to what really matters. Your family.

Never text or use your phone while driving and speak up when you see others distracted. Thanks for doing your part to keep Riverside County safe!

Fans Don't Let Fans Drive Drunk

The most exciting day for American football fans lies ahead this weekend! Did you know that almost half (46%) of traffic deaths on America's biggest Game Day are related to alcohol impairment? https://shorturl.at/vyFPU

At Safe Routes for All, we see this as a reminder of our collective commitment to empower communities by sharing preventative messaging that sparks change and saves lives.

There are actions everyone can take to prevent traffic crashes without dampening the enjoyment of the Super Bowl Sunday experience. Impairment starts with the first drink. The smartest action you can take is to separate drinking from driving.

🏈 Make a plan before you head to a Super Bowl party, so you have a safe way to get home.

🏈 If you’re hosting a party, check in with your guests to verify they have a sober ride home before they start drinking.

🏈 Be prepared to offer your guests a place to stay overnight if no sober ride is available.

🏈 Have the contact for a taxi or rideshare service on hand.

Imagine a New Year filled with Sober Drivers. Now, do your part to make it happen!

09/27/2022

People are human and will inevitably make mistakes that can lead to crashes. But the transportation system must be designed and operated to accommodate those mistakes and avoid death and serious injuries.

We are vulnerable and we have our limits. The faster you drive, the more at risk other people on the road are in the event of a crash. Safety is the goal.
