When I decided to go all in on becoming an LDA and building this on my own, it was a risk I knew I had to take.

Not everyone understood the path I was choosing. I heard different opinions and different perspectives, and I know a lot of it came from people wanting the best for me. But if I would’ve let those outside voices become my own, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
I knew when I started this that I wanted to build a life where I felt like what I did every day had purpose. I wanted to help people. I wanted my work to mean something.

Taking that risk wasn’t easy, but it was worth it. I’m grateful I trusted myself enough to take the chance. 🤍

Being married doesn’t necessarily mean your spouse can automatically handle everything for you if something happens.

That’s one reason estate planning can be about more than what happens to your property after you pass away.

A Power of Attorney can be used to give someone authority to handle certain financial matters.

An Advance Health Care Directive can be used to put certain health care wishes in writing and name someone to make certain health care decisions.

A Will or Trust can be used to document wishes regarding your property and estate.

Marriage itself doesn’t replace every estate planning document. What someone chooses to prepare depends on their individual circumstances and decisions.

Your child turning 18 can bring up a lot of questions, especially when you know they may still need your support.

What changes at 18? What happens next? And where does conservatorship come into the picture?

In California, turning 18 means becoming a legal adult. For some adults with developmental disabilities, a limited conservatorship may be one option for assistance with certain decisions. It is not automatic, and the court considers whether less restrictive options can meet the person’s needs.

5 things I learned working in a family law office 👀⚖️
After years of working in family law, there are SO many things I learned that I had no idea about when I first started.

A job loss. A change in income. A change in parenting time.
But a change in circumstances does not automatically change an existing child support order.
