Rochester Pollinators is a resource for anyone who wants to know how they can help save the Monarch butterfly, pollinators (bees, dragonflies, and more), and birds through planting Michigan native plants, shrubs, and trees.

On Sunday, 17 volunteers came and planted native pollinator gardens at 8 Tiny Homes in Detroit in just 2.5 hours. Before they arrived, Ron, Erica and Marilyn laid out more than 400 plants so everything was ready to go in the ground.
The Tiny Homes project, supported by Cass Community Social Services, gives people who don't usually have a path to homeownership the chance to own a home. Now each home has a low-maintenance native garden that will support bees, butterflies and birds for years to come.
Thank you to every volunteer who showed up, rain and all, and to Channel 4 and Channel 7 for coming out to share the story.

We are excited to announce that Rochester Pollinators board members and volunteers are partnering with Cass Community Social Services with 8 Tiny Homes in Detroit on September 20. We will plant over 400 native plants, grasses, some shrubs and trees. After a lot of hard work by Cass volunteers, the grounds are ready for garden plotting and planting!

New to natives? Don't worry — friendly volunteers will be on hand to help you find the right plants for your space (and yes, we do have a 30-foot pawpaw tree to show you what's possible!).
Even if you're not buying, stop by just to see Jane's gorgeous garden — it's worth the visit.

Join Us on the Paint Creek Trail This Labor Day!
Monday, September 7, 2026 — Marilyn Trent representing Rochester Pollinators and Trent Creative as a sponsor, will be out at the Paint Creek Trailways Commission's Labor Day 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk, sharing the buzz about native plants and milkweed! Come say hi and learn how you can turn your yard into a pollinator pit stop.
Where: Rochester Municipal Park – Kiwanis Pavilion

Schedule:
8:00 AM – Check-in & day-of registration ($5 suggested donation)
9:00 AM – 5K & 1 Mile Run/Walk starts (fun run — not timed!)

Reminder: the trail will be open to all during the event, so please practice trail safety and etiquette — share the path and watch for walkers, runners, and cyclists.

The Lake Orion Meeks Park Pollinator Garden is complete!
This new garden at the entrance to Meeks Park was planted by 17 volunteers from the Lake Orion Middle School Hydra Dragons Club, as part of their BioGlow theme exploring biodiversity and pollinators.
The garden includes 12 species of native, Michigan-genotype plants, including milkweed — a host plant that supports butterflies as they lay their eggs and their caterpillars grow. Fall turned out to be an ideal time to plant, since it gives the roots a chance to get established before winter. The final step will be adding a thin layer of mulch to help keep weeds down while the garden settles in.
A big thank-you to the Lake Orion DDA for helping make this pollinator-friendly space possible, and to all the Hydra Dragons for their hard work! We can't wait to see this garden come alive with butterflies and bees next spring.
