More than 45,000 people gathered in St. Louis Sept. 24 for the beatification of Blessed Fulton J. Sheen — including members of the faithful and several priests from the Diocese of Rochester, where Sheen served as bishop from 1966-69.
Among the Rochester pilgrims was a man who still has a handwritten note Sheen sent him when he was 10 years old. Others recalled watching Sheen on television, shared how his life influenced their faith and reflected on what it was like to witness his beatification in person.
