Bosnia, 1992. The Bosnian War had just begun following the breakup of Yugoslavia, forcing families from their homes and creating an enormous need for medicine and medical care.

Dr. Pennino traveled with AmeriCares on a humanitarian mission to help deliver desperately needed medical supplies. This is where it all started.

Those early experiences helped shape what InterVol would become — recovering medical supplies that could still do good and getting them into the hands of people who need them.

More than 30 years later, we’re still doing just that. 🌎💙

How could we let Security Guard Week end without a shoutout to the security team at Rochester Regional Health’s Riedman Campus! 💙

They do a whole lot more than keep our staff and volunteers safe. They make sure we can load and unload whenever we need to, direct traffic when things get a little crazy, graciously accept donations that arrive during our off-hours, share a few laughs with our volunteers — and occasionally make sure leftover pizza doesn’t go to waste. 🍕😂

They see all the coming and going that makes InterVol work and somehow manage to keep us all moving in the right direction.

Volunteers from Our Lady of Lourdes, Our Lady Queen of Peace, St. Anne and St. Thomas More — four Brighton Catholic community churches — joined us at InterVol and got an incredible amount of sorting done!

And the best part? Their message before they left: “WE’LL BE BACK!” 😂

♻️ Give it another look!

REMINDER: Take one more look before throwing something away. Because what you no longer need may be exactly what someone else does.

Recently, our friends at Recovery All Ways (RAW) stopped by InterVol to pick up supplies that will now help people right here in Rochester. RAW provides outreach and practical support to individuals facing substance use, mental health challenges and homelessness — including hygiene and personal care items, wound-care supplies and other everyday necessities.

That’s what InterVol’s recovery program is all about: before it goes in the trash, give it another look. It may have a whole lot of good left to do. 💙♻️
