This week, Conifer joined housing and economic development leaders from across New Jersey at the 2026 Governor’s Conference on Housing and Economic Development in Atlantic City.

Representing Conifer were Norma Padilla, Noah Freiberg, Max Friedman, and Janine Owens, who spent two days connecting with colleagues and partners, sharing ideas, and discussing the opportunities and challenges shaping the future of affordable housing.

As the conference celebrated its 30th anniversary, it provided an important opportunity to come together around a shared goal: creating and preserving high-quality affordable housing and strengthening the communities we serve.

We’re grateful for the conversations, connections, and partnerships that continue to move our industry forward.

What was once a vacant historic school is now a vibrant community where people can live, create, and connect.

THEN: The historic Corpus Christi School had sat vacant for more than a decade.

NOW: Market Apartments at Corpus Christi has transformed the landmark into affordable, state-of-the-art apartment homes while preserving the character of the original building. The community also features a 2,600-square-foot artistic workspace, giving local artists a place to create and collaborate where they live.

Purchased by Conifer in 2009 and opened in 2015, Market Apartments at Corpus Christi has helped revitalize Rochester’s East Main Arts and Market District while celebrating the neighborhood’s creative community.

Located in the historic Marketview neighborhood, residents are within walking and biking distance of local shops, restaurants, cultural venues, and more.

We were proud to have Norma participate in a panel on Long-Term Portfolio Strategies and Lisa join a discussion on Capital Strategies for Brownfield Development – two important conversations focused on strengthening and expanding affordable housing for the future.
