Carlos made me so emotional with this card and flowers. 😭🥹 (side note - we moved away 2013 & my legacy clients followed me)
One year ago today, I left Penn and went from six figures to five. Apparently, being my own boss came with a pay cut. 😂
TaxSpace had been part of my life for years, but giving it my full attention was a big change. I was excited, but I was scared, too.
When we were a team of 2, I worried about how I would meet payroll. Having people depend on a business I was building made every decision feel bigger. A year later, we’re a team of 8, and the business can support those jobs. That means a lot to me because I remember how uncertain I felt at the beginning.
We’ve also opened another office, expanded our services, and continued helping individuals, small businesses, and nonprofits with their taxes and finances.
Along the way, I’ve been building the foundation for Prospera, Center for Financial Equity. My goal is to make financial education and practical business support more accessible to people in our community. It’s still in the early stages, but I’m excited about what we can build.
This year has involved learning to delegate, making difficult decisions, and finding time to plan while keeping up with the day-to-day. There are still worries and plenty of things I’m figuring out. But looking back helps me recognize the progress I sometimes miss when I’m busy working.
What keeps me going is helping someone understand their finances, get their business organized, or feel more confident about their next step. That’s the work I wanted to make more room for through TaxSpace and, now, Prospera.
As TaxSpace Prospera Center takes shape, I’d love to connect with people who want to help whether by volunteering their time, sharing their expertise, partnering on workshops, or introducing us to potential sponsors and funders. If this work matters to you, send me a message. I’d love to talk.
Today, I’m grateful for my time at Penn, for my team, and for everyone who has trusted and supported me along the way.
One year in. Still learning, still figuring things out, and proud of the progress. And hopefully working my way back to six figures. 😂

Could your business prove what it owned yesterday if the office flooded tonight? 🌧️
Most business owners think about insurance after a disaster. But there’s another question that matters just as much:
Can you prove what you lost?
If your office, storefront, vehicle, or equipment were damaged tomorrow, would you have records showing what your business owned and what you paid for it?
A little preparation now can make insurance claims, disaster assistance, and tax reporting much easier later.
Consider keeping digital records of:
Photos or videos of equipment and business property
Receipts and purchase invoices
Computers, printers, furniture, and other fixed assets
Business vehicles and equipment
Insurance policies
Cloud backups of important financial records
An up-to-date fixed asset list in your accounting system
Quick tip: Take a video today. Walk through your office or business and record your equipment, furniture, electronics, inventory, and other valuable property. Save it somewhere secure in the cloud not only on your phone.
Good bookkeeping isn’t just about taxes. It’s also about protecting the business you’ve worked to build.

What a busy Friday. Had a visit at my alma mater, the Penn Law school. Then went to see the rising of the Puerto Rican Flag at city hall. Saw the portal for the first time. It was so cool. Then met Mima for lunch. Mima just started a new job at the Comcast center performing at the Sphere for the How to Train a Dragon exhibit. Lastly a few zoom calls in between. 🤪 Happy Friday!!!

That one time our commissioner was on vacation and there was no one to give testimony so they sent me. Lol I had to quickly write up something. What a mess! But I pulled it off.

Great time yesterday at the Mexican Independence Day Festival hosted by the Mexican Cultural Center. We are the accountants for the organization. It was fun being involved with the event.

Got the kids promoting our business at the Rockledge car show.
I’m clearly no influencer! 😫 Here’s some bloopers lol.
Making money from a side hustle is exciting but turning it into a real business takes more than sales.
Start by separating your finances, tracking your income and expenses, registering your business, and understanding your tax responsibilities.
Your side hustle has the potential to become something bigger. Build it the right way from the beginning.
Need help making it official? TaxSpace can help.
An IRS letter showed up? Don’t panic but don’t ignore it either.
A notice doesn’t automatically mean the IRS is correct, and it doesn’t always mean you should immediately pay the amount shown.
First:
✅ Check the tax year and deadline
✅ Compare the notice with your tax return and records
✅ Confirm how the IRS calculated the balance
✅ Respond before the deadline even if you disagree
Many IRS notices can be corrected or resolved, but waiting may lead to additional penalties and interest.
Not sure what your letter means? TaxSpace can review it and help you understand your next step.

Business owners: deducting every purchase does not automatically make it a business expense.
One of the biggest tax mistakes I see is inaccurate expense tracking and it could cost you valuable deductions or create problems if your return is questioned.
Keep your business and personal spending separate, save your receipts, and make sure every deduction has a clear business purpose.
Be honest: Are your business expenses organized right now? 👀 Comment YES or I NEED HELP below.
