𝑳𝒊𝒔𝒂'𝒔 𝑱𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒏𝒆𝒚✨ 𝑴𝒆𝒕𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒄 𝑪𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒓 𝑭𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒓𝒂𝒊𝒔𝒆𝒓

On July 25th of 2016, our lives changed forever when my momma, Lisa Masters, was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma. From that moment on, she began a battle that has tested her strength, faith, and determination in ways most people could never imagine.

She underwent extensive chemotherapy and radiation to shrink the tumors before having a double mastectomy. At the end of 2017, she underwent a DIEP flap reconstruction, hoping to finally begin healing after such a difficult season.

But cancer had other plans.

In early 2018, the cancer spread to her cervical spine, requiring another chemotherapy and radiation regimen. Then in 2020, it spread to her liver and lungs, once again forcing a change in treatment. In 2022, the cancer progressed further in her lungs, although thankfully it was no longer detected in her liver. In 2024, it spread to her lumbar spine, leading to yet another chemotherapy change—one she has faithfully received through her port for nearly the last two years.

In March and April, we noticed the treatments becoming more difficult than usual, leaving her exhausted and taking much longer to recover. Many of factors involved, so we weren't sure.

Then, on June 23, 2026, our journey took another unexpected turn.

After noticing concerning symptoms, I sent my mom to the emergency room. The ER doctor ordered a CT scan and discovered a large tumor on her frontal lobe that was causing significant swelling in her brain and pressing against the right ventricle. She was immediately transferred to Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas and admitted to the Neuro ICU. An MRI revealed a second, smaller tumor on her right occipital lobe.

She underwent emergency brain surgery to remove the larger tumor. We are incredibly grateful that the surgery was successful. She had left sided facial paralysis that has significantly improved! She couldn’t walk or sit vertical at all post surgery. She’s now walking with a cane short distance. She had zero  mobility in her left arm. She’s now moving her arm slowly! She wears support, because it is flaccid unless she tells herself to move it. But progress.. Oh how thankful I am for her progress.
She’s fallen a few times, because she wants to help! Imagine that! ☺️
Physical therapy has been a difficult process, but she will be doing that as well.

Her next step is radiation therapy to treat the remaining occipital tumor and the frontal lobe tumor bed. After completing radiation, she will undergo a PET scan to evaluate the rest of her body and determine whether her current treatment can continue or if another change will be necessary.

For TEN years, cancer has been a constant part of our life. It has brought countless doctor appointments, surgeries, hospital stays, treatments, travel, and overwhelming medical expenses. Yet through every chapter, my mom has remained a fighter.

Despite every setback, my mom has never stopped fighting. She has faced each diagnosis, every scan, every treatment, and every unknown with incredible courage and grace. Through it all, she has continued to show us what true strength looks like.

Aside from myself, she has not fought this battle alone. By her side every step of the way has been her wonderful husband Keith Masters. Through every doctor appointment, every treatment, every surgery, every hospital stay, and every difficult conversation, he has remained her constant source of love, strength, and support. He has carried burdens no caregiver ever expects to face or should face, never leaving her side and never giving up hope. Watching the love they share through this journey has been nothing short of inspiring.

On top of this, she has raised her special-needs grandson while continuing to work as an insurance agent. That is a whole story in itself. Even with countless medical bills for the both of them, everyday expenses, and the demands of cancer treatment, she has continued to be his rock!

She has had to take a step back from work over the last several years, but she continues to do everything she can.
