Great job Kendra!!
Ladies and gentlemen. The city of Rolla Fire & Rescue would like to introduce you to Kendra. A 12-year-old girl who is about to enter the 7th grade. What is so special about her is the fact that she is without a doubt the very definition of a true hero. Earlier today we were dispatched to a reported structure fire in an apartment complex in town. While en route, units were advised that a back bedroom was on fire. Once on scene the fire was quickly extinguished and an investigation found that a hoverboard had experienced what is known as a thermal runaway during charging. Kendra was home this morning with her younger siblings who just so happened to be resting in the same bedroom as the hoverboard. Kendra entered the room and first noticed black smoke and then fire. She grabbed her siblings and closed the door to the bedroom and then got everyone out of the apartment and then proceeded to bang on the neighboring apartments doors to warn others in the building. Her ability to remain calm and pull her family out of the room and to close the door to the fire room without a doubt helped to slow the spread of the fire and isolate it to the bedroom. Kendra did everything the correct way and she did it flawlessly and without hesitation. Please join us in congratulating her for her heroism and courage.
