Meet an MSE Summer Intern!
----Miguel Madrigal III----
Miguel is working toward a bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering.
This summer, Miguel is interning at Molycop USA.
He has been researching the heat treatment and phase transformations of steel grinding media while contributing to the development of Molycop's new Marked Ball Wear Test (MBWT) methodology by performing statistical analysis and creating customer reference material. He is also visiting mining and mineral processing operations in Colorado and Arizona, as well as steel mills in Indiana, to gain firsthand experience with grinding media applications, quality assurance, and supplier manufacturing.

MSE recently welcomed 17 Junior High and High School teachers from across the country for the ASM Advanced Materials Science Teacher's Camp!
Educators left with hands-on curriculum, supplies, and lab activities ready to bring straight back to their classrooms - plus a firsthand look at S&T's campus and our 3 materials-related degree programs (Ceramic, Metallurgical and Semiconductor Engineering). Highlights included stops at the hot glass Shop, the foundry, Protoplex, and the Student Design Center.

As Jackling Camp wrapped up last week, we want to say thank you to all the campers who visited the Missouri S&T Materials Science and Engineering Department! 👋
We loved welcoming students to explore Semiconductor Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, and Ceramic Engineering through hands-on activities, lab tours, and interactive demonstrations. We hope you had as much fun learning about these exciting fields as we had sharing them with you!

⭐Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Aditya Kumar
Position: Associate Professor
Research Interests: Composition-structure-property relationships in silicate materials; experimental characterization and numerical simulation of reaction processes (thermodynamics and kinetics) and evolution of microstructure; development of sustainable binders for construction infrastructure; simulation of fluid/ion transport in porous media.
Dr. Kumar is also the Interim Director of the Materials Research Center.
