Nothing fancy. Nothing overdone. Just a really good, old-fashioned chocolate chip cookie made from scratch. The kind that feels like it came straight from Grandma’s kitchen. 🌼

It’s pumpkin season and I will not be taking questions. 🎃🍂🤎

The first pumpkin bread of the season is here at The Candy Patch, because the second September hits, I’m officially ready for all things warm, cozy & pumpkin. 🧡

🍪 The side of baking no one posts about.

Social media gets the pretty cookies. The perfectly packaged orders. The full market tables. The batches that come out exactly the way they were supposed to.

But this is the other side.

I’ve been fighting with my cookies lately, and I still haven’t figured out exactly what’s going wrong.

I’ve checked the recipe. I’ve adjusted temperatures. I’ve tested bake times. I’ve checked my oven. I’ve baked batch after batch trying to pinpoint the problem… and I’m still working on it.

And unfortunately, “testing” isn’t free.

It’s ingredients. It’s hours in the kitchen. It’s cookie dough. It’s packaging plans that change. And it’s entire batches of cookies that become a loss because I won’t sell something I’m not happy with.

That’s the part of owning a baking business that doesn’t usually make it onto your feed.

Sometimes you can do something you’ve done a hundred times and suddenly it just doesn’t work. And sometimes there isn’t an immediate answer as to why.

It’s frustrating. It’s expensive. And yes, there may have been some staring-at-the-oven-in-disbelief involved. 😂

But one thing isn’t changing: if I wouldn’t be happy receiving it, I’m not selling it.

So while I normally show you all the sweet, pretty parts of The Candy Patch, today you get to see a little bit of the mess behind them.

Because small business isn’t always picture perfect.

Sometimes it’s a whole lot of cookies in the “absolutely not” pile. 🍪🫠
