📚 LET’S TALK IEP GOALS! 📚

Is your child not making progress on their IEP goals?

Ask these 6 questions:
1️⃣ What data are you collecting?
2️⃣ How often is progress measured?
3️⃣ Is my child on track to meet the goal?
4️⃣ Are all IEP supports being provided as written?
5️⃣ What interventions are being used?
6️⃣ What needs to change if progress isn’t happening?

✨ Don’t just ask IF your child is making progress—ask to SEE the data.

📌 Save this for your next IEP meeting & share with another parent!

📚 LET’S TALK ABOUT IEP GOALS! 🎯

IEP goals should do more than simply sound good on paper—they should clearly address your child’s individual needs & provide a way to measure progress.

As a parent, do you know:
🔹 What each goal is actually targeting?
🔹 How your child’s present levels connect to the goal?
🔹 What data will be collected to measure progress?
🔹 How often progress will be monitored and reported?
🔹 What your child should be able to do by the end of the IEP year?

💡 Your child’s IEP goals should tell a story: Where is my child now (baseline data)? → What skill does my child need to develop? → What will success look like? → How will we measure it?

If you’ve ever looked at an IEP goal and thought, “What does this actually mean?”—you’re not alone!

What’s the #1 thing you wish schools explained better about IEP goals?

Drop your answer in the comments! ⬇️

📰 SPECIAL EDUCATION IS IN THE NEWS — ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION?

Special education families are seeing important conversations unfold in the news & these stories can have a real impact on students, parents & the services children receive.

Here are 3 stories worth paying attention to:

🏫 When a child needs a specialized school—but can’t get in
What happens when families know their child needs a different educational setting, but schools or programs aren’t willing—or able—to accept them?

⚠️ Federal guidance & special education transition services
Changes in new federal guidance could affect how transition services are provided to students with disabilities & threatens to upend decades of progress in high school transition planning for families preparing for life after high school, this is a conversation that matters.

📚 Special education classrooms & access to services
Disability Rights Texas filed a federal lawsuit against Klein Independent School District (Klein ISD) after the district blocked advocates from inspecting special education classrooms for over a year. It raises important questions about access, inclusion & the rights of students with disabilities.

💡 Why should parents care?
Because what’s happening in the news can become tomorrow’s reality in schools.

Parents need to stay informed about:
✅ Special education policies
✅ Changes in federal & state guidance
✅ Disability rights
✅ School district practices
✅ Access to appropriate services
✅ Transition planning
✅ Educational placements

Knowledge is advocacy & staying informed is part of being prepared.

👀 Have you seen any of these stories?

What special education issue in the news has caught YOUR attention recently?

⬇️ Drop the topic below! Let’s talk about it.

Taking a little break from the IEP world today after asking questions all week no one could answer.

Can you explain that?”

Them: “It’s just our recommendation.”

Me: “Based on what?”

Them: “Our professional opinion.”

Me: “Cool. Where’s the data?”

Them: 😐

Me: “I’ll wait.”

Them: 🧍🏽‍♀️🧍🏽‍♂️🧍🏽
