Felony Drug Arrest Following Traffic Stop

On September 16, 2026, at approximately 8:22 a.m., members of the Rotterdam Police Department were on routine patrol when they observed a U-Haul van traveling westbound on Curry Road. The vehicle had previously been reported to the Rotterdam Police Department on September 15, 2026, after it was not returned by the agreed-upon date.

Members of the Patrol Division initiated a traffic stop on the U-Haul in the parking lot of the Valero gas station (3060 Broadway). During the subsequent investigation, officers identified a passenger as Matthew C. Bergeron of Schenectady, New York. Bergeron was found to be in possession of methamphetamine, he**in, and co***ne.

As a result of the investigation, Bergeron was charged with:

· Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree – NYS Penal Law § 220.16(12), a Class B Felony

· Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree with Intent to Sell – NYS Penal Law § 220.16(1), a Class B Felony

· Two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree – NYS Penal Law § 220.03, Class A Misdemeanors

Bergeron was subsequently remanded to the Schenectady County Correctional Facility. At the time of his arrest, Bergeron also had outstanding warrants for his arrest.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be filed.
