Oregon OSHA is sharing the work of Oregon Young Employee Safety (O[yes]) Coalition 2026 media contest finalists. The media contest puts a spotlight on the importance of young workers’ safety and health, with a focus this year on staying safe in the heat. The competition challenged high school students across Oregon to create compelling videos or graphic designs that inspire young workers to take the Oregon OSHA heat illness prevention online course at https://osha.oregon.gov/edu/courses/Pages/heat-illness-prevention-online-course.aspx.

This week, we are highlighting the graphic design finalist, “Say O[yes] to Safety,” from Henley High School in Klamath Falls.

The largest workplace safety and health conference in the Pacific Northwest is returning! Save the date: March 1-4, 2027.

The Oregon Governor’s Occupational Safety & Health Conference (GOSH) will offer more than 160 workshops and sessions at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland. The conference is a collaborative effort by Oregon OSHA, the Columbia-Willamette Chapter of the American Society of Safety Professionals, and labor and businesses in Oregon and southwest Washington.

Registration is expected to open in early 2027, but here’s how you can support the GOSH Conference now:

Register for the 2026 Central Oregon Occupational Safety & Health Conference, scheduled for Sept. 28-29, at the Riverhouse Lodge Convention Center in Bend. To register, go to safetyseries.cventevents.com/central26.

The conference offers employers and workers opportunities to sharpen their skills in building and maintaining safe and healthy workplaces. Topics include fall protection, confined spaces, chemical safety, driving safety, heat-illness prevention and wildfire smoke requirements, safety committees, and much more.

In addition to many workplace safety and health topics, the conference offers sessions focusing on safety and health challenges in emergency services. The Oregon Fire Chiefs Association’s Safety and Health Section helped create the conference’s emergency services/first responder track.

On Tuesday, Sept. 29, the conference will feature a keynote address, “Finding Your Beat, the Rhythm of Life,” by Tim Eggebraaten, a certified speaking professional who worked in law enforcement for 28 years and is also known as “The Off-Duty Chief.”

The Central Oregon Occupational Safety & Health Conference is a collaborative effort of Oregon OSHA and the Central Oregon Safety & Health Association.
