Flying Bee Ranch
Home to Salem, Oregon's only Honey Tasting Room. Open Tues-Sat 9am-5pm year round. Shop local honeys,
π Summer is here and that means the bees are working on fireweed flowers! Our fireweed honey comes from the foothills of Oregon's Cascade Mountain Range.
π₯ Wildfires can be dangerous and damaging to forest landscapes, but some fire is part of a healthy forest ecosystem. Low intensity fires that clear the understory make excellent growing conditions for early seral plants like fireweed.
π―Fireweed honey is light in color and has very fine crystals when crystalized. Known as the champagne of honeys, its flavor is mild, traditional, delicate, and sweet flavor with just a touch of spice at the finish. Sometimes we run out of fireweed honey, don't miss out on getting a jar this year!

For all of you who recently pick up nucs from us, we recommend attending this month's club meeting of the Willamette Valley Beekeepers Association. They will be teaching how to mark queens! There will also be discussion about managing for varroa mites.
Swarm season is in full swing in the Willamette Valley. There isn't much better than a swarm moving into a hive you acrually want bees in, as opposed to ones in the barn for example. Today we caught a swarm using a lure called Swarm Commander. The scout bees arrived the day before and moved in about 24 hours later.
